I have a Windows xp laptop connected to Internet by ethernet, It's definitely connected but websites I am trying to access keeps displaying "this page cannot be displayed" I've reset Internet settings, I've tried Internet protocol at obtain ip address automatically and dns automatically, etc etc.

Please can you help me connect as I can't even download a more current Internet explorer.

Hello, as someone who specializes in using old systems for absolutely no reason other than “Because I can”, I think I’ve got the solution. First things first, you need to get your certificates (special files that help your computer figure out which websites are secure and which ones aren’t) up to date. For this I recommend the Legacy Update project, which can be found at http://legacyupdate.net

Once that’s out of the way, download and install a modern browser. I recommend Mypal, which can be found at http://mypal-browser.org

    Hope this solves it!

I literally only need it to download a programme for my embroidery machine as only runs off xp, is there no way to access any websites at all? This is literally all I'm using it for!

You can use a different computer with a later operating system and supported browser to download and save that program to it > copy to flash Drive > transfer to XP machine and install it.

IE8 was the last version of IE for XP.

It is no longer safe to use and is not supported by websites.,

And XP itself it also not safe to use, not just IE.
