Sumit, you did not answer the question that he asked, you answered another. What he asked was "Kindly let me know how to remove Desktop and Documents folders from OneDrive." He did not say anything about Downloads, which is only what your "answer" talks about. So the information you give fails to explain how to solve the problem the user asked about.
How do I remove Desktop and Document folders from OneDrive?
Kindly let me know how to remove Desktop and Documents folders from OneDrive. Please note that I use OneDrive - Personal in Windows 11. There are some very big files in Desktop and Documents folders, and I don't want any of the files in those folders to be saved to OneDrive. Further, these two directories were originally not in OneDrive folder, and I want the original location to be restored. Please note that originally it was running Windows 10, and later got upgraded to Windows 11

2022-12-30T13:26:38+00:00 I cant believe that Onedrive sucks up personal data into the cloud without user permission. This is contrary to privacy policy best practice! Now I have to spend hours trying to figure out how to remove my system "Documents" folder out of OneDrive without deleting all my data.
When a question is asked here on the forums, no qualified MS engineer is able to answer questions. Instead we get half-baked copy and paste answers. What is this?
I will try to repose the questions again:
1.) Folder Issue: How do we remove document folders out of OneDrive?
2.) Backup Issue: Why does Microsoft create personal data backups into the cloud without asking the user in advance (in a transparent manner)?
Thank you!

2022-11-24T16:40:02+00:00 I FOUND THE SOLUTION !
- Right click OneDrive icon in the System Tray.
- Select "Settings"
- Select the "Backup" tab.
- Click the "Manage backup" button.
- Select "Stop Backup" for the folders you want to move out of OneDrive (Documents, Pictures,..).
Then on the folder select properties
Click on the Location Tab
Click on "Restore Default"
The process will restore the default user location to C:\Users\User and remove the OneDrive path-------- My problem:
I uninstalled onedrive and still didnt let me move the folder location.I got the error:
\* (Can't move the folder because there is a folder in the same location that can't be redirected.)so I had to reinstall onedrive and follow the steps above to fix it :)
EDIT: so i had a problem with the pictures folder, it didnt let me pin it to "quick access"(home) so i had to delete the folder in "C:\Users\User\Pictures" and make an screenshot so that it creates a new "Pictures" folder and that fixed it.

2022-12-30T13:49:51+00:00 Spend hours on this issue without any results.
1.) I removed Desktop and Document folders from within the "Backup" settings in OneDrive (right click OneDrive icon).
2.) I right clicked the folders (documents) in File Explorer and went to "Location" tab and clicked on "restore defaults". I did get the prompts and confirmed all. But when I review the changes, I see that the location has NOT changed and jumps back to OneDrive. Why?
3.) When I stop OneDrive from syncing for 24 hours, OneDrive keeps resuming immediately without asking me. It is like OneDrive is forcefully trying to suck up all my data and there is no way I can stop it.
This is probably the worst experience I had so far with Windows 11. I also believe this is illegal in the EU, as I have not confirmed anywhere that I want my private data in the cloud.
Please, we need a competent Microsoft Engineer to resolve this issue and let us know how we can remove these folders from our OneDrive ASAP!

2022-10-05T13:42:29+00:00 I have the same problem. I tried this but one drive will not allow the desktop to be unticked. I do not want desktop icons to be on onedrive in my university folder. It tells me the desktop is important to windows and will not untick.
