hello i am currently having an issue where my pc will not boot at all from my main drive. i keep getting a fltmgr.sys error and cannot even boot in safe mode i am unable to use any of the troubleshooting options and all the "fixes" i can find online assume i can still boot up my pc. the furthest i can get is the Bios before crash. is there a way i can fix my drive without losing my files and apps (i am able to access this drive if i boot from my old drive but it doesnt have my apps and files and is too small for them).

Thanks for reaching out! My name is, Zadee. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be glad to help you today.

I understand that you're having problems booting windows after getting a BSOD.

Is your main drive still detectable in BIOS? If yes, then your best option is to reinstall windows using a bootable USB through BIOS, Pete. Please let me know if you need the steps or guide on how to reinstall windows using a bootable USB. I'd more than happy to provide that to you.

    Thank you!

    Hi Pete,

My name is Igor, it's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you.

Please run command prompt as administrator and run

    fltmc filters

command. Then check all you filters with https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardwa... list and try to uninstall non-Microsoft tools.

i can find the drive and interact with its files as a secondary but trying to boot from the drive does not work in any capacity it always crashes giving a thread exception error pointing to the fltmgr.sys . i have tried to repair from a usb that i have put windows 10 on but it will run and then stop telling me to first boot the drive i want to fix, which is the problem. i will also mention i had this problem a few months ago however i was able to reinstall windows then. i do not have that option this time and i would rather not loose some important files tied to windows.

You should still be able to reinstall windows using a bootable drive. I can provide you the complete steps if you want them. You won't lose any data too as long as you do not delete any partitions. Just install the new OS in the same partition and transfer the files from the Windows.old folder to the new one. However, you'd have to reinstall all 3rd party apps and games through this method.

If you do not want to go through that method then I'm out of ideas for now. We can leave this thread open and have other experts join in and see if they have other ideas to solve this issue.
