Jerico, any response to a specific issue that suggests re-installing Windows is an absurd suggestion.
Is is possible to skip an update (Feature Update to Windows 10, version 22H2)
Windows 10 version 22H2 makes the wheel on my mouse stop working. I tried updating drivers through Device Manager, and all drivers are up to date. Rolling back this specific update makes the mouse wheel work again. There have been no further software changes.
Is there a way to prevent Windows from installing this particular upgrade - or should I say "downgrade"? The fault is 100% repeatable, because as soon as I finished rolling back feature update 22H2, my machine told me to update, and installing the update caused the mouse issue to return.

2022-12-06T05:15:38+00:00 dashdotdot, it's a Logitech wireless mouse. But there is nothing wrong with the mouse, because it works perfectly with the 22H2 Feature Update rolled back.
Fortunately, Microsoft put out the 22H2 security update separately, so I was able to install that. Unfortunately, setting my connection to metered cripples numerous other Windows and Office features, so it is not a viable solution.
I suppose I will just pause updates for a few weeks, to see if the issue is resolved the next time my machine updates itself.

2022-12-06T00:55:04+00:00 Is that an off brand mouse? I've never heard or seen such a thing happening. Might actually be an issue with the mouse firmware and not all manufacturers will release updates for that. The Windows supplied mouse driver is PnP so shouldn't really ever have an issue there.
You could try also insider preview updates, pausing updates, enabling and using Windows Update settings to not allow updates over metered connections (by simply enabling metering on the networking connection but not setting any limits), and so on.
People need security updates so Microsoft forces updates as much as they can (especially since many won't otherwise update) or otherwise users would be inflicted with major security issues which would be worse than a non-working scroll wheel :)
To answer your question, you can technically avoid things and update to additional later. But, you can't really skip unless its truly optional. 22h2 is currently optional but will be forced in time regardless of how it looks as even 23h1 or whatever will still contain 22h2.
