Cannot click on top part of my screen after windows 11 update

I've had my laptop for a month and its been working fine up until the recent windows 11 22H2 update. Now there is a part of my screen (area shown in screenshot) where I can't click on. Anything within that area isn't highlighted when the cursor hovers over it either. Nothing happens. I've spent the past couple days trying everything I can find online that can help me out but I haven't seen anyone with my specific problem. Most of the problem occurs in the bottom left where the search bar is but my affected area is at the top.

I've made sure everything has been updated and that the windows update settings are on automatic. I've also tried troubleshooting but it hasn't done anything, tried running a SFC scan and even uninstalled the window updates and reinstalled them.

For some solutions the problem resolves temporarily but once I shut down my computer for the day and then turn it on the next day, the issue still persists and hasn't gone away permanently. I don't want to reset my whole computer if I'm just going to end up back at square on. Has anyone got any ideas on what the problem could be and how I can fix it?

    Hello Hibiscus237,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Let me help you with the problem of the top of the screen not being clickable.

Thank you for your efforts to solve this problem, I appreciate active users like you.

Have you tried restarting Windows Explorer to fix this problem? If not, please give it a try.

    1. Right-click the Start icon and select "Task Manager".
    2. Windows Task Manager interface, find the process to open, right-click explorer.exe and select End Process.
    3. Windows +R type "explorer.exe" and press enter, so that the Explorer restarted.

If restarting windows explorer does not solve the problem, please try to close the Edge bar and set "Automatically open Edge bar when the computer starts" to off.

1.In Edge, select Settings and more in the upper right corner of your browser window.

    2.Select Settings > Edge bar

    1. Click 'Open Edge bar' to close it.

    1. Set the "Automatically open Edge bar when computer starts" button to "Off"

If the problem still exists after the above operation is completed, please perform a clean boot in Windows, so that you can determine whether a Third-party software program is interfering with your system.

You can click How to perform a clean boot in Windowsfor more details about clean boot.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Hi Lenka,

Sorry for the delay in the reply. I appreciate the suggestions you gave and have tried them out. The first 2 solutions didn't work so I did the clean boot until I found the problem.

I have an ASUS Zenbook Duo which requires the ASUS ScreenXpert driver for it to function and for some reason it was interfering with the new Windows 11 update. I looked for any solution on the ASUS website and found this:

So I downloaded the optimizer and restarted my computer and it worked. The next day when I turned my laptop to use for the day, I waited a few seconds for it to fully startup and checked whether the top screen was still unresponsive. I found that it was unresponsive until I turned on the Screenpad plus, the top left had no problem and was working. So I then turned off the Screenpad to make sure it wasn't necessary for it to be turned on all the time for the main screen to work. And thankfully it doesn't. It seemed that turning on the Screenpad resolved any issue.

I didn't want to reply until I knew this was a consistent solution. I just checked again today and same thing happened. The top left didn't work until I turned on the Screenpad. I then turned it off and the top left is still working.

I'm not sure what about the Screenpad/ScreenXpert is affecting the Windows update but for now I found a solution that's slightly inconvenient but not invasive in terms of resetting anything. I possibly just need to wait until ASUS releases updates that fixes this and works with the new windows updates. But for now it's working.
