How do I get windows to recognize that my headset has a microphone?

I received a gaming headset for Christmas that has a microphone however after a long journey of trying to connect the microphone to discord I realized that not only Windows not using the microphone, it doesn't show up as an input device at all. Anyone know how I might be able to get Windows to acknowledge the fact that there is currently a microphone plugged into it?

You are already using your headset microphone.

When you plugged in a 3.5mm headset, the computer will prompt you "which device did you plug in", select "headset". If not prompted, then go to realtek audio console or whatever your laptop's audio configuration app (dell audio app, waves maxxaudio pro, hp audio app, B&O audio app...) and select headset.

    That's it.

Lightly tap your headset mic, the "microphone array" signal meter should jump verifying that you are using your headset mic.

My name is Cindy. I am sorry you are having this problem. I know it is really frustrating. I will do my best to help you with this problem.

There are several things you can try.

n the link below I have attached some troubleshooting suggestions to try.

Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security.

    Under App permissions, select Microphone.

Make sure that the Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone toggles are turned On.

Next, would be to run the Troubleshooter.

Right click on the audio button on the taskbar.

    Then run the troubleshooter.

    ____

If this does not fix the problem, reinstalling the microphone drivers may fix this problem. I have attached the directions below.

    1. Please right click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager. Then hit enter.

This will open the Device Manager.

    1. Scroll down the page and click on Audio Input and Audio Output Folder.
    2. Do you see a Microphone file? If so, right click on it and reinstall it.
    3. Then restart the computer. Windows will reinstall the drivers and fix the problem.

If you do not see the driver file, scroll down the page and check to see if you can find it in the Sound, Audio, Game Controller folder. If you find it, uninstall it and restart the computer.

If you are not able to find the driver in either folder, this means it is no longer installed on your computer. The Microphone driver can be downloaded from the maker of the computer. It is free of charge.

    Sincerely,

    Cindy

I’ve tired both of these solutions to no avail, the problem is not the computers microphone which works fine. The issue that I’m having is getting my computer to recognize that there is a microphone built into my headset that I should be able to use instead of the computers microphone however I am unable to switch it because it doesn’t show up as an option anywhere. I’ve already tested the headsets microphone on other devices and it works fine so it is definitely an issue with the computer.
