Failed to unlock with this recovery key

Laptop: Asus Rog G14, good condition

My laptop started crahsing (bsod) more often than it used to, about 2 weeks ago. I didn't think of much and continued to use it. 2 days ago it got really bad and today upon launch it gives me the 'unmountable boot volume' stop code. All troubleshooting options that are given to me I have to enter the recovery key for. After entering the right one it gives me a message saying 'Failed to unlock with this recovery key'. What is the problem, how do I reset windows?

    Thanks a lot!

So I have the key. I know it is the right one as all ways I've tried to get one But when I enter it, it says 'failed to unlock with this recovery key'. So I tried if I can copy my files through the command prompt and the notepad and I was able to open it but I can't access the local disk. It is locked by the key. Is there any way to work around the key? Open it through the command prompt or maybr on another device?

    Again, thanks for helping

Turns out that manually installing the driver was the way to go. Just need to do that with all the other drivers now and I set. So glad it's not a problem with the laptop itself. Both, thanks for your help though. I'll try to get the files back from the old drive, but that's not as important, now that I got the laptop back and running.

Good day! I'm Raniel. I understand your frustration regarding this issue and I'll do my best to help.

Kindly double-check if you'll be able to find your recovery key on your Microsoft account using this link instead: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoveryk...

    or via OneDrive: https://onedrive.live.com/RecoveryKey

I also suggest that you refer to this article for further details on how to find your Bitlocker key: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fin...

If that didn't work, you may also go through the methods provided by Greg Carmack - Windows MVP 2010-2020 (retired) on this thread with a similar issue that you're experiencing: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

However, if the issue still persist, see if you'll be able to rescue your files, then perform a clean install of Windows instead. Kindly refer to these articles as guides:

Rescue Files when Windows Won't Start:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Performing a Clean Install of Windows:

I hope this helps. Good luck!

    Hello, Theo.

Unfortunately there's no way to get past Bitlocker which is why it's called drive encryption because it's not crackable. Sometimes if it's broken (like apparently now) the rescue files method will work but its very rare compared to the number who lose files instead. This is why I strongly suggest to always have another real time backup like OneDrive (5gb free) or Google Drive Desktop (15 gb free) because built-in encryption can fail.

I'd try again with the key tomorrow. Triple check it's accuracy, it's a long key.

See these possible fixes for Bitlocker key not working to unlock drive:

Feel free to ask back any questions. If you'll post back detailed results then I may know what to suggest next, if necessary.

    Hi Theo,

Apologies if the suggested methods didn't work for you.

I'm also running out of options here. But let's see if someone else has a better idea with regards to this issue.
