CTRL + SHIFT + S completely stopped working on Windows 10.

Hello,

It was a normal day making a mapping video in Paint.net and suddenly after like 5 minutes my Ctrl + Shift+ S hotkey for saving as a file so I can save as the file and suddenly stopped working completely and when I say completely, there is no error message and nothing is happening. I tried making an example file in notepad and typed a bunch of A's because I think the problem is only in Paint.net.

But when I did Ctrl+Shift+S no error message nor the save as thingy popup. I tried the shortcut key to alot of different apps like ms paint, GIMP, google chrome and nothing worked. I tried to restart my computer and then tried it again and It didn't work. I tried to disable the snipping tool and It didn't work as well.

Please help me get rid of this,

Thank you

WOW! I've tried everything on the internet until seeing this post and was just about to give up and do a clean install of Windows 10! So glad I didn't!

I recently built a Ryzen 9 7950X pc in mid Dec 2022. It was working fine for the first week or so. Then I noticed the integrated graphics GPU disappeared from my task manager. I ignored it because I really only use my rtx3090.

Around the same time the AMD integrated graphics disappeared from my task manager, I started running into the same issue of the ctrl+shift+s, ctrl+shift+c and ctrl+shift+e not working which are all hotkeys I use in Blender and Photoshop etc. I didn't even consider that the integrated graphics issue could be related to hotkeys.

WELP, I just found this post thankfully and installed the AMD Adrenalin Edition/Auto-Detect software... it detected an issue with my integrated graphics card. Restarted my machine and my AMD integrated graphics card now shows up in my task manager and the ctrl+shift+s, c, e problem is FIXED!

Why the integrated gpu is affecting certain hotkeys is beyond me.

For anyone with a new Ryzen 9 gen 4 chipset, here's the Software that fixed the issue for me:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/apu/amd-ryzen-processors/amd-ryzen-9-desktop-processors/amd-ryzen-9-7950x

    Thanks for the posts people!

    Oh my god!

    Its fixed!!11111

when I installed the an Intel Graphic Driver because I am fixing something called "Full screen lag", that error is fixed and I was going crazy at that point and fast forward to 3 hours later, I am making a video and instead of pressing Ctrl + S aka the save file shortcut key, I pressed the Save as shortcut key and a save as folder thingy popped up and I still didn't noticed it but then when a pop up comes out and says "map.png already exist" and I was like "whaaaaaaaat?" and after that I closed the pop ups and tried save as shortcut key again and it popped up!

Thank you for helping me fix this error ❤️

Then there's something that's interfering to stop it from holding the hotkey in place. It's most likely an app, so to minimize the chance it can do it again create a completely clean boot following step 4 in this checklist:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Restart WIndows and do the reinstall you just did that got it working again.

If that fails, look at the Event Viewer logs for anything that might reveal what's interfering with the shortcut key at exactly at the time it stopped working both times:

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

If it worked properly with Paint.net when first installed then you might want to try uninstalling it ehten reinstall it from a fresh download found here: https://www.getpaint.net/download.html#download

If that doesn't help and you don't have customizations you need to save then I'd uninstall it again in App Settings, then restart and delete the Paint.net Program File at C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (86). From View tab tick the box to Show Hidden Files, then also delete the Program Data, and C:\Users\Your User Account\AppData folders for the app. Restart PC and reinstall again.

With those I've given you every possible thing to both fix this, or map a replacement shortcut. If none of these work then there is likely nothing else that can be done.

Ok I actually did all and nothing works but theres 2 things that is kinda striking

the first that I do not have the "Turn off windows key hotkeys" option

and when I turned on the sticky keys and typed the save as hot key, a sound plays this https://youtu.be/zkpLjlR7eQg
