Windows 10. Sound level very faint even at 100% volume.

I am working with a person whose volume suddenly got very low. She is using the Realtek Audio driver on a Lenovo M70q "tiny" computer. When you go to adjust the volume using the speaker icon in the task bar, you can barely hear any sound, even going up to 100%. What's strange is that if you go to the Sound settings in Control panel/Speaker Properties, and run the Test, it comes over loud and clear. I have tried removing drivers thru Device Manager and restarting to reinstall, to no avail. Also tried updating from the Lenovo site and that didn't work. She gets voicemails sent to her email and when you open the voicemail using Windows Media Player, it is also at very low volume, again with volume set at 100%. Volume is also showing 100% when you open "Volume Mixer" for "Device" and all applications listed.

    Hi Jerico.

I tried the steps you gave me and it still did not work. Again, the oddest thing is that if you perform the "Test" thru the properties setting, you can hear sound at whatever volume is set on the icon on the Task Bar. But if you just adjust the sound from the icon - when you would expect to hear a tone when you change the percentage - it's barely audible, even when you click 100%.

    Thanks.

    Paul

    Hi Paul -

I'm Jerico T., I understand that you're having some issues right now, I'll do my best to help you with your concern.

Please try to perform the steps below.

    1. Open run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type devmgmt.msc then hit enter
    2. Locate and expand Audio inputs and outputs (do this also to Sound, video and game controllers)
    3. Right-click on the driver and select Update driver
    4. Select Browse my computer for drivers
    5. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
    6. Select any older driver from the list and click next
    7. Wait for the process to complete, once completed, restart your computer and check if it resolves your issue.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Jerico T.
