HID Compliant mouse X 2 (yes two)

Hi All, I have a Lenovo Laptop and the touchpad capability disappears every so often - say if I close the lid before it is shut off, or I do a system clean or sometime an update etc.

I've tried to work out over the year what it is... I have concluded it is the 2x HID entries in the device manager.

The details of both are the exact same... the 2 of them exactly.

When I loose the touchpad "one disappears" and then I have problems trying to get it back.

Nothing else appears to change/disappear.

At worst it is a COMPLETE reformat, which is a pain.

Lenovo drivers and their forum are pointless, the laptop driver isn't even used or works on the machine. As you can see by the windows drivers shown x 2.

What is the go?

And can you do a backup of the whole "device manager", so when if it happens, I can just restore it from a backup. Note: I've used a "Backup_or_Restore_Device_Drivers" batch file before but this most often doesn't work.

Any clues for these 2 little devils?

Cheers all...

cheers, I don't expect answers on here... I just like to see if they listen. As you can see I state clearly, "all the normal MS fixes won't work" and someone says try the normal MS fix...

Then they hide... it's a pretty common response.

I even asked if you can backup the drivers (why I already know how, but asked anyway) of course no one gave me a simple answer... this would be the first otpion really. Backup and restore...

The problem here is for dumb people with simple dumb questions... you need to test if they have changed, nah.

My mouse prob seems to have gone and I believe this is more a MS update thing more than anythong else. There's been an update and in the depths of that something got mistakenly fixed. Like a drug that is designed to do something, they find it also does something else.

    Hello DiggerDavey,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

You can uninstall the device in Device Manager(Click on the two "HID-compliant mouse" respectively > "Uninstall device"), then reboot the device and see if it works. The system will automatically search and install the driver suitable for your device generally. Or you can install the touchpad driver manually.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thanks Mosken, I am way past the basic advice stuff mate, sorry... these 2 exact same drivers are required, why I am really unsure. I'm pretty clued on, so all the normal MS advice is not going to work.

For what it is worth - after a reformat for example, both drivers exist and any time one is gone the touchpad stops. Why? is the big question... 2 exact copies of the same driver in the device manager. How this is possible who knows. cheers

    Hello DiggerDavey,

Good to see you again in Microsoft Community.

You may perform a clean boot, this is a mode of disabling third-party services or software, which could help rule out the interference of these elements.

Disclaimer*: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.*

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get you back on track.

Then go to Windows Settings to see if there are optional updates (especially driver updates), if so, check them and install them, then restart the computer.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,

    Yep, sorry already tried...

As I said, the usual MS stuff isn't really gonna cut it. This is needing some very special insight.

I'm very happy to provide some details if you let me know what you want.

Here are the backup files of both (same) HIDs.
