How do I remove trending searches?

Hi,

I noticed this in my search bar and would very much like to remove it. Being always 'turned in' to the news is really bad for my mental health and I really hope there's a way to remove it.

Thanks

    Hi Derek,

Reading Greg's multiple suggestions again, he/it does seem like some sort of automated bot replying by the (typical) obtuse manner of getting at a useful solution, but perhaps it's a real person that's just grown accustomed to answering in an MS approved way instead of finding/disclosing the regedit hack that just turns the bloody thing off.

I have had to do so many similar 'hacks' over the years that it's become tiresome, boring and futile expecting that they'll ever make it simpler and provide a simple toggle switch. As you say, there's absolutely no point in feeding-back, whoever/whatever makes these decisions in the first place has no intention of listening or to just simply making thinks blatantly easy to switch on or off. It's all done out of some sort of marketing or financial reward system and we all know how well that works for society, so hacks is all we have, I just wish they'd publish them in a useful resource of tweaks.

Thank you for listing your alternative solution, something that the theoretical/seemingly GregBot or MS could have done easily in answer to the original problem/question by 'Safes'.

Hi Safes. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

You can try the suggested fixes here:

If those who feel as strongly will only file feedback to get this across to Developers, it might make a difference.

If you want to express your opinion on this you may be able to help Microsoft improve this product/experience by using the Feedback Hub in Start Menu, especially if you are comfortable with sharing relevant data and screen recordings. Microsoft developers DO read feedback from customers that comes in via the Feedback Hub, so that is a great way to share your thoughts on how to better serve you as a customer.

I hope it helps. Feel free to ask any questions.

Glad to help, Tad. It took me a bit of digging to find it and I am continually amazed at how the "experts" either hand us answers from literally the first page of Google. (Apple forum "helpers" are notorious for this to the point where I finally switched from iPhone and Apple watches to Garmin watch and Android phone because I was tired of s**t not working and them being no help beyond handing me links I'd already found and then getting snippy when I pointed out that I was asking THEM because I'd already done that same search.)

I don't find it difficult to read the entire problem, note the specific and exact piece of software and the presented issues with it, and provide what little information I have. Why the "experts" like a "10 year MVP" can't do the same is astonishing to me.

    Merry Christmas!

Apologies Greg, reading your replies yet again, I think you are real and your advice about feeding back to the developers is perhaps useful, I do however feel it's somewhat fruitless given what we've seen over the years with regards to fairly pointless locking us out of choices with such things that get foisted on us without a care or option to revert.

As I indicated, algorithms, money (tracking/advertising) and 'knowing what's best for us' seem to be the main overriding factors when such things are added without any way out. And the answers often given by such experts as yourself often seem to be answering the wrong question, providing a bunch of search links (as you did, which we'd probably already done before asking here), or of the "have you tried reinstalling windows" variety, when all that's needed is the regedit switch that otherwise so easily could have alternatively and much more simply/productively been provided in the UI.

This is what's wrong with Microsoft, Apple, Google, whoever and the World these days, just keep things open and forget trying to influence and steer user input to be simple for the masses, let the experienced also control their destinies.
