Forced to use Edge

I use IE Explorer for a few specific things. I understand it will no longer be supported and updated, I am perfectly fine with that.

What I am NOT fine with however, is the idea that you software developers seem to have that, if we the CUSTOMER buys your software and install it on OUR systems, that automatically means that MY computer is now YOUR computer, and you have the right to tell me what I will or will not use on MY system. Just who the hell do you think you are?

What software I use on MY COMPUTER is a decision that will be made by ME. It is NOT a license for YOU to dictate what I will or will not use on MY system. This is not YOUR computer, it is mine. If you feel you have the right to dictate what I use on my system, then I expect YOU to PAY for my system. But when it's MY money being spent on it, I will make the decisions. BACK THE **** OFF!

Not exactly. You see, I have IE installed, and now, because Microsoft decided they want to force Edge down everyone's throats, they've made it so when I click on the IE shortcut, it switches to Edge and opens it there instead. Microsoft has decided that they want me to use edge instead, so they changed it in an update. They have no business doing that. Yes, they are both Microsoft products, but I paid for them. I paid for windows which included IE, so that means I paid for IE as well. And without giving the option, they decided to update the software and REMOVE a feature that came with what I paid for.

As I said, if they want to stop supporting it, that's their decision and right. If they want to not update it, that too is their decision and their right. What they DO NOT have a right to do is make changes and change features that are already on my system. If they're allowed to do this, what else would you support them doing? How about if they decided they didn't want you to be able to print from your computer. Will you support them removing that feature from your computer? What about your choice of monitors. If they decide they want to only allow you to use a specific brand and size monitor, are you going to be ok going out to buy the one THEY want you to use and remove the ability for the one you currently have to function?

How much control are you willing to allow Microsoft to have over what programs and features you use?

IE is discontinued, only IE mode in Edge is left for compatibility purposes, mainly for companies that need it for important legacy software they are not ready to replace yet.

I'm sorry you did not get the message about this. It was pretty widely publicized but with 1.5 billion users some are bound not to see all notices. IE is no more.

Just one other detail: We all sign an agreement to use Windows when we install or first set it up which makes it clear it is only licensed to us to use per the End User License Agreement readily available on the web:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Useterms/Retail...

There are some things they cannot fully release to us like the code, reverse engineering, turning off basic security that could cause rapid spread of infection across the Windows ecosystem, etc. They spend more money on protecting Windows (and users) than many countries spend on defense, with 24/7 Security Control Centers on every continent which are always battling back infection.

I hope that this basic information I learned as an MVP will add to your understanding, and I will be happy to answer any other questions as long as they are polite and friendly Rudeness is not allowed here at all, it conflicts with the mission of the world's largest tech forums.

Hi Blaine. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

If you want to express your opinion on this to Edge Developers you can choose the Edge Hub (three dots to right of URL address bar) then Help & Feedback, then Feedback form to fill out. They will not even see it here. This is a peer help forums where other Users try to help with your problems.

Exactly how is Microsoft trying to tell you what browser you need to use, other than promotional messages that sometimes come with new Edge updates which you can ignore? You can still install any other browser you want and set it as default and Edge should not bother you. If they do then Edge developers need to know about it so they can look into it.

If you'll tell me what the concern is I can likely help you fix it. As long as you are polite I will help you as much as it takes. I have more experience at this than almost anyone on the web, so anyone who works with me usually gets it fixed.
