Help with Printer Driver in S Mode Windows 10

Hi there

Long time user of Microsoft products but first time user of the Microsoft Community. I have just purchased a new laptop that has Windows 10 S Mode installed. I would like to use my current printer (Canon MX475 Series) with the new laptop, however due to S Mode I am unable to download the driver to use the printer. Without disabling the S Mode, is there a way around this?

If not, how do I solve this issue happening with any printer on a laptop with S Mode?

Many thanks

Al

    Hi AI,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Check on the support page for your printer on the Canon website, if they do not provide a link to a driver on the Microsoft Store, you cannot install a driver for that printer in S Mode.

Many printer manufacturers have not developed drivers that can be installed in S Mode, and the only way then to use that driver is to switch out of S Mode to Windows Home, most people do find they need to switch out of S Mode for free, S Mode is too restrictive for installing drivers and 3rd party software and provided you only ever install software from an official website, there is no problem switching out of S Mode.

    Hi Dave

Thank you very much, that's very helpful and will probably switch away from S Mode then.

Seems to be very restrictive although secure too.

    Cheers

Its not the driver you download, you install the full feature software from Canon support

You can turn off S mode
