Disk Usage stuck on 100% in Windows Task Manager

Hi, I have had this problem with my PC pretty much since I bought it (3 years ago) and I have tried everything I can find to fix it. This problem was both on Windows 10 and 11.

The only way to stop my PC Disk running at 100% is to turn my computer off by holding the power button on my PC (Definitely not healthy), and then turn it back on again. Disk usage will be normal for probably 5-10 minutes but then it goes back to 100%. If I shut it off normally the problem still persists as soon as I boot up.

Things I've tried that don't work:

  • Disabling Superfetch
  • Disabling Windows Update
  • Disabling Windows Search
  • Disabling Intel Rapid Storage Technology (My PC came with a HDD and a tiny NVMe SSD)

I thought that changing to an SSD and taking out the HDD would solve the problem. I changed to an SSD, and the same problem still persists.

If someone could help me fix this problem I would be forever grateful because my computer is almost unusable sometimes.

I can upload screenshots.

Have you run that PC makers update tool to update both bios and all drivers, then set bios to defaults and pwr to balanced?

Very bad idea to disable win update, it wouldn't help in any case.

    Hi pegleg1112,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

100% disk usage is almost always caused by the chipset driver or BIOS.

Go to the support page for your PC or Motherboard on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and install the version of Chipset drivers they recommend and while there, check for any BIOS update that may need to be installed
