How to change Administrator name?

Anonymous

Just recently got an ASUS Vivobook and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. I miss my old, snail paced laptop.

One of my main issues is that my Administrator name is not what I want it to be. It has the name I want (my nickname) under everything else except for the official Administrator information in settings. I have googled and nothing usable has come up. There is no 'gpedit.msc' on my computer (which was one thing that was recommended) and when I accessed the control panel directly via the search bar to attempt to change it there, the option to change my name was missing. This is my first Windows computer so it very well could be that I'm missing something simple.

Thanks for any help.

You can adjust it slightly (only as displayed in Settings though) by adjusting the name in the Microsoft account via browser. It won't adjust on the sign-in screen or other places that way.

The name used in whole everywhere is created by the email used so if Darth Vador used an email of ******@outlook.com then the Windows user would have the name and folder LUKE.

The only semi-official way (there's no true official way) to change this is to add the email desired to the Microsoft account and then add it as an alias in the account. Then you'd have to switch it in Windows. I tested this previously and it works. If you want the User folder name to change too then you have no choice but to create another Windows user using the new email as the account email or try the problematic hacky workaround for that.

Frankly, I wouldn't use the hacky workarounds like John linked unless you want to have a higher chance of problems. It would be better to skip it and just live with it how it is.

    Hey,

Great news for me, it switched over! I'm not sure how or what I possibly could have done to have fixed it, but it's fixed. Some tinkering I did might have finally synced over, or something like that.

Thanks for much for your guys' time!

    Hello August,

Thank you for updating me with that information. Can you take a screenshot of what you want to rename? Note: Don't include any personal information or sensitive data.

    Hi there,

No, unfortunately none of the examples provided worked. My name is displayed correctly everywhere except on my actual computer itself. My account is not a "local" account, and the only option listed for changing an Administrator account out of the ones listed is exclusive to a version of Windows that I can't have.

I believe even if I made a local account just to have that one with the correct name, all of the files saved to my computer would still have the wrong name. I just need the Administrator account's name changed.
