Windows Hello Security Process - high cpu usage

Hello,

I have a permanent cpu usage of ~20-30% caused by the task "Windows Hello Security Process" (NgcIso.exe)

My Device:

Name: Lenovo Thinkpad P15

Prozessor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10850H CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.71 GHz

Installierter RAM 32,0 GB (31,7 GB verwendbar)

Systemtyp 64-Bit-Betriebssystem, x64-basierter Prozessor

OS: Windows 11 Pro 10.0.22621 Build 22621

What i've already tried:

  • Deactivated fingerprint sensor in Device Manager
  • Deactivated all Windows Hello features
  • install latest Windows updates

The process can not be killed in the taskmanager. I haven't found any solution online.

How can i get rid of the process or repair it? Why does it use 30% of my cpu?

greetings

Stefan

I am also seeing this behavior in Windows 11 on a Lenovo P15 Gen 1, everything up to date.

    Hi Pedro,

    thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately this didn't help either :(

Does Lenovo have some special Hardware configuration that could cause this?

    Hi,

    I'm Pedro A, Independent Advisor

Try this procedure and see if it helps and solve the problem:

Press the Windows key + R and type in the run command:

    gpedit.msc

    and hit enter

When opening the "Local Group Policy Editor", navigate to:

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Biometrics.

Double-click the “Allow the use of biometrics” policy on the right pane.

Select the Disabled option. Click Apply and then OK

After that, close the Local Group Policy Editor, restart your windows

Check in Task Manager if the process still remains in high usage

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand the issue you have, nothing to worry I am here to help, I know some of these steps are already done, you have just skipped it if you think it will have the same result.

    Method 1. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Method 2. Run memory diagnostic tool: Memory diagnostic tool is a RAM test to check if there is any issues with RAM.

    • Press Windows key + R then type in mdsched.exe hit OK then restart the device.

Let me know how it goes and I hope that helps.
