A shortcut to Microsoft edge appeared on my desktop a few days ago, so I deleted it because I already have Edge in my taskbar, the thing is the Edge shortcut has come back and keeps coming back after deleting is there a way to permanently remove the shortcut? I don't want it on my desktop.

Thanks!

Hello Kevin. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.`

There are a lot of complaints lately about Edge shortcut keeps returning to desktop after every restart, so it must be something that was pushed through Edge or Updates.

Most are fixing it by disabling the Edge startup listing in Task Manager > Startup tab which apparently keeps putting the shortcut back after every restart.

If not there check in Task Scheduler if Edge scheduled a task to run at every startup to put it back:

    https://windowsreport.com/windows-11-task-sched...

(Avoid ad links which intrude into editorial copy, especially DO NOT INSTALL Restoro, PC Repair Tool and Reimage ads)

if you find the task In the list, highlight and delete it.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the detailed results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.

But that would require us to use edge, and we don't want to :)

Hi Kevin. I just saw this and was about to research how to remove or move the Xbox folder from desktop. Did removing Game bar get rid of it for good?

I had a bunch of cases yesterday about the Edge shortcut returning after restarts, so it must have been due to latest Edge Update. Let's see if they push it through again in next Update.

If you want to express your opinion on this to Edge Developers you can choose the Edge Hub (three dots to right of URL address bar) then Help & Feedback, then Feedback form to fill out. They will not even see it here.

Ok I'll try that thanks... what about the Xbox folder is there a way to have the folder in another location? as I don't want it on my desktop, shouldn't the xbox game bar folder be under the user account where other game files are kept for the individual games? Maybe in documents instead of desktop.

Edit: I tried your suggestion above, restarted PC and seems to have worked. Thanks... Just need to sort this Xbox folder out.

Oh btw the edge short cut started appearing after the recent edge update, it was fine before that.
