Thin horizontal lines just randomly appeared on my laptop and cant seem to get them off. I've tried to let it rest for a few hours and searched on the internet but I only see fixes for PC monitors.

Photo isn't uploading here so I made an Imgur link to it here

    Hi Raven,

I'm Christine, an independent advisor and a Windows user like you. I'll be more than happy to assist you today!

I can see here that you're having issue with the display showing red line on it right now. This kind of issue occurs due to Hardware Failure or a Driver issue.

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Let's try to refresh the explorer.exe

    On Windows 11:

Right click on start menu and choose Task Manager

Click Details Tab and end the task of explorer.exe

Then click Run New Task and type explorer.exe and hit enter

    On Windows 10

Right click on start menu and choose Task Manager

Click Details Tab and end the task of explorer.exe

Hit File then click Run new Task and type explorer.exe and press enter

    1. Run Hardware troubleshooter

Please press Windows key + R

Paste the command below to the Run box and press Enter:

    msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

    1. Update or Reinstall the Display driver

Please press the Windows key + X

    Then click Device manager

    Kindly expand the Display Adapters

Right click and choose "Update Driver automatically"

If the issue persists Choose "Browse my computer for driver"

and click the old version of driver

If it will still the same, please uninstall it and restart your device.

Please let me know the result. I'll be happy to assist you all the way until it's resolved.

    Thank you,

    Christine L

    Hi Christine,

I apologize for not including this in the details but the red lines that you see in the photo were caused by my mouse cursor, it happens when the cursor touches the bottom part of one of the lines, it also happens to other things like windowed apps, app icons, and the background, I included it in the photo to display the issue better incase the lines weren't visible. I still tried the solutions that you offered but unfortunately they couldn't fix the issue.

Here is a photo of the cursor on the line:

    Hello Raven,

Thanks for the update. I'll be transparent with you, it looks like the issue is with the hardware already. I will suggest you to reach the device manufacturer so they could check your screen and address it immediately.

Before doing that, you may also try to perform system restore:
