Hi. I have been encountering this frustrating problem of my screen randomly going black in the midst of a regular task while the power LED on the laptop is ON and the CPU is clearly running. This issue also happens when I wake up the laptop from sleep. The screen lights up but goes black before showing the login page. I have to hard restart the laptop to continue doing my work and all the previous work is lost. Please tell me a permanent fix for this.

For nearly 18 months, I have updated to Windows 11, now 5-6 times. Each time after the update, my screen will go dark every 4-5 seconds, I have actually gotten to be very good at backing out Windows 11 and reinstalling Windows 10 in 4-5 second segments. It is not easy and it is extremely frustrating, When I re-install Windows 10, the problem of the screen going dark goes away. I am currently unable to use Windows 11. I have read on this Microsoft Community Blog where numerous other people experience the same or similar issues. I have gone through the procedure described of going to "Advanced Display", click on "Display adapter properties for Display 1", and determine I have an Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630. It tells me I have the current and most efficient driver. What now? I am now getting near daily requests to upgrade to Windows 11, which sends me into the same loop again. The reliability of my computer using Windows 11 is in question.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

I know how frustrating it is when the computer doesn't work as expected.

This behavior can be caused by multiple factors. But it usually occurs due to the video driver.

I suggest you update your computer's video driver. Nowadays, it is important that the video driver is kept up to date.

If your video card is integrated, download the driver from the support area of the computer manufacturer's website.

If your video card is dedicated, download the driver from the chip manufacturer's website (Nvidia/AMD).

If you can't find the correct driver, send a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to take a screenshot.

If you have a dedicated video card, let me know its manufacturer and model.

Feel free to ask back any questions.

This has started after my upgrade to windows 11. Maybe I also have to update the motherboard's chipset drivers as well? I will try that in the meantime.

Hi David. Sorry for replying late, I didn't check my inbox. I have, in fact, updated the graphics driver from AMD website. The driver that Windows could find was back from March 2022 but AMD software found a November 2022 driver for me. But nothing has changed. In fact, when the problem started, it would only happen once in a while; then it started happening often as well as after waking up the laptop from sleep; and now, it's happening even more often.
