Having High DPC Latency From storport.sys and ndis.sys

Hi there

For a while now I have noticed when I'm playing games I receive audio dropouts followed by freezes at a significant regularity. I have recently downloaded LatencyMon and it appears it is coming from storport.sys and ndis.sys. I have researched for hours trying to solve this but I can't quite figure it out. I saw another thread similar to my issue, but their fix didn't help me at at. I'm starting to think it is an issue with my hard drive, but I would like to check and verify before dumping hundreds of dollars. It also might be important to note that I did build this computer.

I'm really hoping someone can help as I have posted on another forum which ended up gathering some views, but ZERO responses.

Thanks!

CONCLUSION
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. At least one detected problem appears to be network related. In case you are using a WLAN adapter, try disabling it to get better results. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 1:34:44 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 1894.50
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 6.416907

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 1568.60
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 2.440056

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: msmpeng.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 66792
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 18757
Number of processes hit: 116

What I've Tried: Reinstalling Windows, Updating Drivers, Updating BIOS.

Details I notice: Only notice it while I'm playing games on Steam. Audio drops out followed by a freeze for a significant amount of time. After the freeze is done the audio is delayed and is played over current audio.

Hello, I am having a similar issue on Dell XPS 15 9520 and my Raid is ON.

When wanting to change to AHCI/NVME it warned me of a data loss on my disk. (I have 1 internal SSD, but I am connecting more external ones - both ssd and hhd How sure is that? should I save all and reinstall everything later for switching that? thanks

I think I'm following everything correctly, but I don't see anything after I restart. I don't see a "window" file in my C: Drive. I also checked the "Windows". I even tried changing the path in the settings and I didn't see anything there either.

I'm not sure what you mean by the blue screen shutting down.

    Sorry and thanks

In fact, I think it's necessary to install a driver for Intel's fast memory technology. I did notice a few key files in the diagnostic information you provided, namely dxgkrnl.sys (DirectX-related driver and graphical display related), storport.sys (storage port driver), msmpeng.exe (Microsoft virus scanner). These are all programs that need to call the computer's storage port. If possible, you can share the dump logs with me through OneDrive or other network drives so that I can try to find more useful information in the logs.

    Thank you for your response!

I have an SSD and a HDD. I checked my BIOS and the AHCI setting is on. I was looking all over my BIOS and I didn't see any RAID setting displayed anywhere, so I'm *assuming* it is not on.

When it comes to Intel Rapid Storage Technology, I don't believe I have this feature. I don't know if I uninstalled it in my previous escapades of trying to solve this issue or what. Knowing this, I don't know if there is a point to reinstall it, as my hardware is definitely on the newer side.

So to sum it all up, nothing has really changed but I could download Intel Rapid Storage Technology if you think it is worth it.

    Thanks!

    Hi Aidan Bradke,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

As you said, the nature of the problem is related to the hard disk and motherboard problems.I would like to confirm with you whether the hard disk used in your computer is SSD or HDD?

In my experience, you can restart the computer to enter BIOS/UEFI Settings (depending ON your motherboard Settings). In the BIOS/UEFI Settings, there is a "SATA "setting, please check and make sure that the setting is AHCI/NVME (if RAID ON is displayed, please turn off RAID directly). Save the Settings to log out of the system and see if there are any problems before.

Also, according to some user feedback, if your computer uses an Intel chip or CPU, there is a feature called” Intel Rapid Storage Technology“.

This feature may also cause the problems you encounter. If you also have an Intel chip or CPU, visitIntel's official website to download the driver update, or choose to uninstall this feature. (This feature will provide significant improvements on older devices, but limited improvements if your computer's hardware is more recent. Uninstall at your discretion)
