cannot switch from laptop screen to external monitor.

I've tried all suggestions on the web. this happens often after a windows 10 upgrade and usually able to resolve but this last upgrade did not permit me to detect the external monitor. in the past, various actions like plugging ina and out the monitor connection has worked but nothing I tried worked this last update

I had a similar problem with my laptop connected to a Dell dock with two external monitors.

I updated all the Windows drivers, did a firmware update for my laptop, shutdown/unplugged/replugged everything, tried using my personal docking station (which is the same model as the one I assumed was no longer working), and still my external monitors would not load. I could see them in the Device Manager! And all of the other things plugged into the docking station worked fine. So I thought to check one more thing - the Intel Graphics Command Center.  And there I found that the external monitors had been set to "disabled"!!! So I enabled them et voila! Why would the Windows update disable the monitors?? SO FRUSTRATING!

    Hello, john RR.

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

You can try the following methods.

This problem occurs after the WIN10 update, may also be the graphics card driver and WIN10 system incompatible.

    1. press Win+S.
    2. enter Device Manger.
    3. Find Monitors.
    4. Click Display adapters.
    5. Unload Driver
    6. Go to graphics card website and download the latest driver.

    The other method:

Press Win+P to change Duplicate or Extend.

If the computer has not restarted for a long time, the motherboard electrostatic causes external hardware recognition failure

Remove the laptop power supply and connecting cable, shut down and place for a few minutes, let the motherboard discharge.

Here is the link contain more detail about this question.
