Monitor will not wake from sleep

When my PC wakes from sleep it always used to wake the monitor as well but now when the PC wakes the monitor does not respond. The only way to solve the problem is to do a hard reset of the PC. The PC is definitely waking from sleep. it is just the monitor.

I have read multiple forums trying to find a solution but nothing seems to work. things I have tried:

  • updating BIOS
  • restoring Windows
  • running Windows Update
  • trying a different monitor
  • checking monitor settings
  • turning off Fast Startup
  • Running Troubleshooter Power
  • turning off Link State Power Management
  • Restarting in Safe Mode
  • Updating and Rolling Back the display adaptor
  • checking that keyboard and mouse can wake the PC
  • probably a few more that I have forgotten

Asus PN51

Windows 11Home 64 bit

AMD Ryzen 7 5700u

AMD Radeon Graphics

Any suggestions gratefully received

    Hi Greg

    thanks for the quick reply.

The same thing does happen with the other monitor.

I have already found most of those links apart from the eve.community which doesn't seem to work.

I have gone through them all again but still have the problem.

It would be great if you have some other suggestions.

    Thanks again

    Martin

    Hi Greg

I have been in contact with Asus and it has now been sent back to Asus to check for a possible hardware failure.

I will update you when it comes back.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Greg

I have been through your first reply recommendations again and the 2nd reply link.

    Things I have tried:

    • A different monitor
    • Checked the Benq monitor settings for any sort of sleep mode
    • Checked that the keyboard and mouse can wake the PC
    • I can change the monitor sleep setting to Never but when the PC goes to sleep the monitor loses the signal and then it won’t wake up
    • Run powercfg -hibernate off
    • I don’t have Csenabled in the registry editor
    • Checked Power Settings>Advanced options for any settings that do not look right
    • Checked that Power Management for the ethernet adaptor is set to allow this device to wake up computer
    • Disabeled Wake Up on Magic Package and Wake up on Pattern Match
    • Looked at the BIOS settings for anything that might be causing the problem, although I don’t understand everything in there and am nervous to mess with it
    • Disabled Link State Power Management
    • Tried a different HDMI cable
    • Re-installed Windows while retaining files
    • Done System Restore as far back as I can go (I can't go back beyond the system Reset that I did last week to try to solve the problem)
    • All Windows Updates are installed including Optional Updates
    • Updated the BIOS last week (this could be the start of the problem but it is not possible to roll back the BIOS update)
    • Been to the AMD website and downloaded a tool that updates the latest Chipset
    • Looked at the drivers for the Sound, Network, USB3, Bluetooth but am not clear from the descriptions whether I have the latest drivers or not
    • Tried earlier versions of the Display Driver
    • Checked that the screen resolution is running at the recommended settings
    • Run chkdsk from the Command Prompt but it does not report any errors
    • Done a Clean Boot
    • Created a new Local Admin Account
    • Run Malwarebytes – no threats detected
    • Run sfc /scannow – found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

    I have not tried:

I do wonder if the problem is with the BIOS. I updated it last week to try to resolve a problem with the PC regularly crashing after sleep and I think that the monitor not waking occurred after that. According to the Asus website it is not possible to roll back the BIOS

    Thanks again

    Martin

Hello I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

    1. Does the same thing happen with the other monitor? If not then it's the monitor, you can try to hard reset or replace it.
    2. Try these fixes for monitor won't wake from sleep in Windows 11:

    https://www.maketecheasier.com/fix-a-monitor-no...

    https://eve.community/t/monitor-unable-to-wake-...

    1. The Display driver is so important that merely updating it might not be enough. Try everything here to make sure:

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the detailed results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.

Did you do every single step in the display adapter troubleshooting tutorial I gave you?

This is an interactive process. I give steps to perform, you do each one and then report back results until something works, so I know what to suggest next. If you need help performing any step, just ask back. But please do not skip any steps. We often find out the skipped step is the fix.

Once the display driver steps are done then Go over Windows 11 with this Performance Checklist to try to find and fix problems:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.
