Windows 11 upgrade to old (9yrs) HP pavilion G6 laptop.

I have an old (9yrs) HP pavilion G6 laptop with an Intel core I5-3210M processor. This processor is not compatible with Win 11. Furthermore, I cannot see any of the G6 supported processors on the W11 compatibility list, so it looks like I cannot upgrade to Win 11. Is this going to be the position for all time, or will more processors be added to the Win 11 compatibility list, in future?

    Hi Dave,

Thanks a lot for this reply - it was really useful.

I think that, given the age of my laptop, I will stick with Windows 10 for the time being, and review the position again when Microsoft announce the end of support for W10. That might turn out to be the time to buy new laptop.

Once again, I really appreciate your help on this one.

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Microsoft were testing and adding some more processors, and did add some to the list, they indicate they have now completed testing, and no more processors will be added to the official list.

It is possible to install Windows 11 on an unsupported processor using the Windows 11 ISO, I have Windows 11 installed on an unsupported Core i7 7700HQ processor and Windows 11 runs very smoothly, however Microsoft advise you do not do that, they will not be liable for any problems caused by doing that and also you would not receive Windows 11 updates, however, everyone that has installed Windows 11 on an unsupported processor is still receiving updates.

Microsoft provide the required registry edit on this link, I have installed Windows 11 on unsupported devices back as far as 5th gen Intel processors with no problem, but I have not tried Windows 11 on a 3rd gen version like yours.
