Hello HowardLifshitz,
Good to see you in Microsoft Community.
Firstly, could you let me know the specific system version? You can check it by pressing the Win key + R key, and typing "winver", then press Enter, please take a screenshot/photo of it, and only send the relevant information without PII in the next reply.
I recommend setting it up like this on both devices (double-check if you've already tried the setup).
1. Enable network sharing and discovery
Please check in the Control Panel to see if network sharing and discovery is turned on. "Win" logo key + "Q", open the search box, type "Control", enter to open "Control Panel" (View by Category*) > "Network and Internet" > "Network and sharing Center" > "Change advanced sharing settings", enable "Turn on network discovery" and "Turn on file and printer sharing".*
2. Change the network type
You may set your network to private so that devices under the LAN can discover each other and there will be no network isolation. Visit Make a Wi-Fi network public or private in Windows****for details.
- Private network. Use this for networks you trust, such as a network at home or work. When a network is set to private, your PC is discoverable to other devices on the network, and you can use your PC for file and printer sharing.
- Public network. Use this for networks you connect to when you’re out and about, such as a Wi-Fi network at a coffee shop. Your PC will be hidden from other devices on the network, and you can’t use your PC for file and printer sharing.
3. Enable relative features and allows it through the system firewall.
Win + R to open "Run", type "Optionalfeatures" and press Enter*, check all the contents of "SMB 1.0 / CIFS File Sharing Support" in the "Windows Features" interface, then "OK". Restart the system.*
Win +Q to open the search box, type "Firewall.cpl", press Enter to open the firewall interface in Control Panel, click "Allow an application or features through Windows Defender Firewall" > "Change Settings" on the left, then check it in the "File and Printer Sharing" list, then "OK".
Additionally, you may visit Can't access shared folders from File Explorer - Windows Client | Microsoft Learn & File sharing over a network in Windows - Microsoft Support for more details about Windows file share troubleshoot, hope that helps.
If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Best Regards,
