Why does my Windows 11 does not go to the sleep mode when I close the lid, despite the right settings?

Hello,

I've just bought a new laptop and thus switched from good old Windows 10 to not-so-good Windows 11. For some reason the sleep mode doesn't activate when I close the lid. The thing is, I've searched this forum and I've done all the things suggested - I opened the control panel and changed the functions of power buttons (I picked 'shutdown' for the main power button and 'sleep mode' for closing the lid), I've restarted the power plan etc. and the problem still persists. Please, help me fix it, I've run out of options.

Kind regards,
Mary

    Hello Mustafa,

good news - problem solved! It was a hardware issue indeed. Apparently all it took was to enable lid switch in bios settings, which for some reason was turned off as default. Once I enabled this option, everything started to work like a charm, and what I set in the control panel finally has some influence on what the computer actually does.

I decided to post it here because someone may find it handy in the future. All you need to do is turn on bios when starting the computer, go to 'Power', enable lid switch and press 'apply changes'.

    Kind regards

    Mary

    Hello,

hardware issue it is then. The laptop came with Windows 11 - I had Windows 10 on my previous one. Surprisingly enough, Windows 11 feels like a total downgrade. It's inconsistent, unintuitive and feels awfully Vista-like with many interface choices (control panel included). Anyway, thanks a lot for your assistance and all your efforts to help me!

    Kind regards,

    Mary

    Hey,

already done that - this also doesn't work. Perhaps my laptop doesn't track lid closing? I'm beyond surprised, cause it's brand new. Maybe there's no way to resolve this... If I could switch back to Windows 10, I would - never had any issues with the previous system.

    Kind regards

    Mary

    Hello Mustafa,

thank you for your answer. I'm sharing a screenshot now - it looks exactly as it should with the only exception being the power button, which I'd like to be set to 'shut down', as I mentioned before. And of course I use the 'save changes' button. Objectively, it should all work fine, but it doesn't, which is why I decided to post a question here. I literally have no idea what to do.

    Kind Regards,
    Mary
