do i still need two factor authentication with passwordless account

Do I still need two factor authentication with a passwordless account? It seems redundant considering the Authenticator is performing both functions. As you roll out the new passwordless account feature, perhaps it would be best to also turn off 2FA. What am I missing?

It also seems like a "Product" that could be listed in the topics selection could be for "Microsoft Account" questions. This question I have is not really Windows related, yet there is no better option. Just a suggestion.

Thank you for this explanation. I figured it was probably redundant, but what I found confusing was after enabling passwordless, the 2FA settings remained active on the website. Perhaps it’s disabled behind the scene, but I had to manually disable it on the website before it actually indicated that it was turned off.

    I appreciate your time.

Hello ! I'm Aymeric, and I'm here to help !

Once you activate the passwordless login on your Microsoft account, the 2-factor authentification is disabled : you only need your phone with the Microsoft Authenticator app to approve the login. There's no code to enter.

If you do not have your phone, a temporary one-time password will be sent to your account recovery email.

Feel free to ask if you have any other question!
