Reinstalling Windows 10 on Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55

Hi there,

recently my Laptop (Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55) has been playing up a bit and I feel like my installation of windows has something wrong with it (corrupt files etc). For example, it wouldn't let me perform a system restore so I had to use the advanced boot menu which was also slightly broken and my password wasn't working. Luckily I fixed that issue in the end. I can't perform Chkdsk and other system operations just don't seem to work so well. I've uninstalled a lot of bloatware and try to keep my background applications to the minimal but it still feels quite slow. My performance in games feels as though it's deteriorating so I am thinking about performing a reinstallation of Windows 10 through Media Creation Tool. My concern is because I'm on a laptop is this going to create issues? I will back up files I want to keep onto another PC so that's not an issue but things liked drivers and BIOS updates that might have come with my laptop I'm concerned about. Will my BIOS be affected? And will I have to manually install drivers for the best outcome? What issues could arise in the process and do you think there is a better option for me? Sorry if this is confusing, please leave me any questions you have about this situation and I'll answer. Thank you in advance,

Georgie

    Hi Georgie,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Rest assured, you can re-install Windows at any time, and that is the best way to fix a system with many problems, you will end up with a responsive and stable system.

Re-installing Windows will not affect on your BIOS, and the installation process will install a clean set of device drivers, if there are any drivers not automatically installed during the installation, you can get any drivers you need from the support page for your laptop on the Asus website on this link:

    Hi Georgie,

    1

The pre-installed Asus software is also downloadable for that support page link on the Asus website, you will need to download and install the software form there.

    2

When you are installing Windows, at the start of the installation you will be asked to choose where to install Windows, you must delete the EDI, C Drive and Recovery Partitions, they will merge into one unallocated space, select that and click 'Next' to begin the installation and provided you do not touch the partition(s) on the other drive, all data on the second drive will remain untouched by the installation.

    Hi Dave,

Thank you so much for your response. This is a relief to hear so I think I will proceed with reinstalling Windows 10. Will preinstalled software that came with my laptop originally when bought be reinstalled or would I have to manually install that off the website? In addition to this, what will happen to my second SSD that I have in my system, will the information/files on that be formatted as well as well as my main C: drive that Windows is installed on? (I manually installed my second drive). Thank you in advance,

    Georgie

Will the BIOS be effected when I reinstall windows or only the drivers? And I have tried the System File checker and although it sometimes finds and fixes corrupted files etc, I see no difference in performance and my issues still aren't fixed. I would have to manually install the drivers off the website which isn't a big problem as I would know how to do it but I don't feel comfortable upgrading the BIOS by myself, would it be necessary?

You update drivers and Bios via that laptop makers update utility, have you done this?

    Run the system File checker
