Microsoft Defender SmartScreen

Hi,

I want to install a program from an unknown publisher on my PC but I can't.

When I try to install the same program on another PC I am prompted with the following message

I click More Info and choose INSTALL and the installation is successful.

Why am I NOT prompted the same on my main PC? Note I have Norton Security installed on both PCs and if I disable it momentarily on my main PC the program won't install.

How do I stop Microsoft Defender from blocking my app to install on my main PC?

Thanks in advance

    Hi Mustafa,

The app I am trying to install (littlenavmap.exe) is a utility for FS 2020. It is a utility used by thousands of Simmer and I trust it. Is there a way to set Windows Defender to behave on my new PC like on my older PC, i.e. Pop-up the SmartScreen.

Actually my new PC is set so I cannot access VIrus & threat protection when I click it.

My older PC is set in the following manner

Notice VIrus & threat protection is not check on my older PC and if I drill on it I will be able to access Windows Defender settings

Note "littlenavmap" is the only utility from an unknown publisher I want to install and wish my new PC behave like my old one, i.e. Pop-up Windows Defender Smartscreen and give me a choice. Note each PC are running the same version of Windows Pro but don't behave is the same way.

    Regards

No problem, to disable Microsoft defender you can go to windows security>virus & threat protection settings> manage settings> real-time protection> turn it off

I have attached a screenshot for your reference.

Also, make sure that your Norton antivirus is disabled.

Let me know how it goes

Hello! My name is Mustafa, and I am an Independent Advisor as well as a long-time Microsoft user. I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I am hopeful that I will be able to help you find a satisfactory solution.

I would not recommend it but you can disable the smart screen

go to windows security> app & browser control> smart app control> off

    Also, go to windows secuirty> virus & threat protection> manage settings> real-time protection> off

Note: Although you can do these I would not recommend it to you, the software that you are installing could put your pc at risk as the prompt says. So do it at your own risk

Please let me know if this doesn't work or if you need further assistance.

    Warm Regards,

    Mustafa

    Hello, I see.

Mine looks exactly like yours. I have attached a screenshot for your reference.

can you search for: virus & threat protection and see if you can get into it?

From the screenshot of your older PC, I can tell that you have disabled Microsoft defender which is why it doesn't have a green tick on it.

So can you do the same with your new device?

You should make sure to disable Norton completely before being able to disable Microsoft defender.

    Mustafa
