I don't recall if this applies to The SIMS, but the SIMS 2 uses SafeDisk copy protection and due to a security 'feature' MS introduced
with Win10 that blocks the SafeDisk driver (secdrv.sys) used by this and hundreds of other disc based games from loading, you have to use a
noCD fix\hack to run any SafeDisk 'protected' game on Win10\11.
Normally there will be an secdrv.sys file on the games main disc, so you should be able to verify if they used SafeDisk with The SIMS
by opening the disc.
They also tended to mix and match copy protections on the individual expansion packs. So that can complicate things as well.
Safedisk protected games will generally install as the secdrv.sys driver only gets activated during the disc check. A noCD fix tricks
the game into thinking the disc check has been completed and allows the gamer to get around MS's intrusive DRM Blocking 'feature'.
- Win11 added another and more restrictive layer of security which somehow became more intrusive a bit before the 22H2 update.
This has stopped 10 of my old disc based games from launching.
(I think some of my noCD fixes are seen as a threat, but most of my old games are still running on Win11).
