Bluescreen then Please Select Boot Device

Hello,

I've got this issue where the computer bluescreens with a message saying "something went wrong" and the PC restarts. The motherboard logo comes up fine, but then it transitions into a black screen with the error "Please select boot device". Every time I can simply reboot the PC again and it fixes itself as if nothing happened.

So I've seen that this problem is a somewhat common one, but in my search, people aren't able to get past the error and reboot to fix it like I can. I don't know how this changes things.

    Hi sayron1-[xboxvenue]

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    1

Go to the support page for your PC or motherboard, to see if there is a BIOS update available that may not yet be installed on your PC.

    2

If there is no BIOS update available, boot into BOS, fin the option to restore BIOS defaults, apply that and save those settings.

if the problem continues, the next time this happens, use these steps to try to repair the Windows startup process.

Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt... etc.

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Repair

See if Windows startup can repair itself

No I didn't yet, your posts confused me a little since both ISO posts were mentioning creating one, but one was of my own system and another was of a secondary. I thought you were speaking of these as the same step, not two separate ones.

    Hey Dave,

Black screen with "Please Select Boot Device" right after the motherboard logo comes up. There is spinning dots but they only show when the motherboard logo is still up.

    Hi sayron1-[xboxvenue]

When you boot up your PC, does that error screen appear before you see the spinning dots to indicate Windows tried to boot up and is it on a black or blue screen?

    Thanks for the response,

I did update the BIOS and do the startup repair on the first occurrence. Issue still persists.

Also for the record, it doesn't do it consistently, it can be months before it happens, though shortest time between was about 2 weeks or so. It varies greatly.
