    Hey Peter,

If you've resolved this by now then well done!

I had the same problem today (28-04-23) I've bought a new laptop with Windows 11 installed and wanted to have Windows Photo Gallery which is such a great app. I read a lot of stuff about it not being available or Microsoft has blocked it from being installed on Windows 11 but I kept trying.

I downloaded Windows Essentials 2012 from c.net and also the additional network programs that get flagged up. Nothing happened until I restarted my laptop and voila....there it was! Now working perfectly and I can tell Windows where to find my photos and to access Windows Photo Gallery to view and edit them.

    Hope this helps

    Hello Peter, this is Emily.

Windows Live Essentials have been discontinued since quite some years ago. It is never tested on recent Windows builds (including Windows 11) so there's no guarantee of anything at this point even if you manage to get it installed.

I will suggest that you consider alternatives, such as Windows Mail app, Windows Photos app, etc.

If you must try, you can use this article as a reference, but keep in mind, it is not a guarantee that it will work.

    Hi,

My computer broke down and needed to reinstall the operating system back to window 10. It wiped out the window movie maker app. You mentioned that you downloaded window essential 2012 from cnet. I downloaded but movie maker is not there. Any idea where I can download safely the movie maker app?

    Thanks!!

    Lily

Sorry folks, but I am still struggling with this. I have tried the CNet installation and I still get the same error message when it stalls installing at 18%. So I have turned off my Windows and Avast Premium Security firewalls and tried to install a fresh download - but with exactly the same result.

Perhaps it's my version of Windows it doesn't like?

Thanks for the suggestions thus far but I would like to keep trying, please.

    Hi @IanTupman,

Thank you for your suggestion. Your advice worked! :D I restarted Windows 11, and the shortcuts for the Windows Live programs were available afterwards. :)
