Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard stops working on Windows 11

I have a Dell Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard combo. This combo has a USB dongle as well as 2 Bluetooth settings. I have the dongle plugged into my Windows 10 computer, and then use one of the Bluetooth settings on my Windows 11 device. Every so often, the mouse and keyboard will stop working on the Windows 11 device. I can switch the devices over to the Windows 10 computer and they still work just fine.

I have gone into my Bluetooth settings on the Windows 11 device and see they are still paired and connected to the computer, and says they are working properly, but they do not work. I have tried turning the Bluetooth on the computer off and back on again, but that does not fix the problem. I have tried turning the mouse and keyboard off and back on again, but that does not fix the problem. I will turn my Windows 11 device off and back on again, and that is the only way that I have found to fix the problem. I have set the setting to Not allow Windows to turn off this Device to Save Power, but it still stops working. This is not something new, and has been happening ever since I got this combo and computer. I got them at the same time, so I can't say one worked before the other.

    Hi Bazukal,

My name is Cindy. I am sorry you are having this problem. I know it is really frustrating. I will do my best to help you with this problem.

Please note: This is a user-to-user community forum. We are users just like you who help others. We are not employees of Microsoft.

There are a few things you can try. Windows 11 drivers may need to be updated.

The first thing would be to run the Troubleshooter for Bluetooth.

    1. Please type word troubleshoot in the search on the taskbar and open the page).
    2. Then click on other troubleshooters.
    3. Scroll down the page and click on the run key for Bluetooth.

    ___

Please type the word update in the search on the taskbar and open the page.

    Update if necessary.

On the same page click on the additional or advanced options and update.

    ___

If possible make sure the devices on the Windows 10 are turned off when not using them. The Windows 11 computer may be trying to connect to Windows 10.

    __

The drivers for your Bluetooth may have become corrupted. Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver will usually fix problems.

    1. Please type the words Device Manager into the search on the taskbar and open the page.
    2. Scroll down the page and click on Mice and Other Pointing Devices.
    3. You should see the mouse drivers. Right-click on them and uninstall them.
    4. Restart the computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.
    5. Check to see if the problem has been fixed.

    ___

If these do not work, go to the website of the computer maker such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc, and see if they have updated drivers. If you need assistance they should be able to assist you with this problem.

Please let me know if this does not work or if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Cindy

Looks like it is something with the mouse and/or keyboard itself. I hooked them up to my Windows 10 computer using the second Bluetooth setting. This was the first time ever connecting them to this computer, so fresh new drivers.

I was working and then it stopped responding. I switched the setting to the first Bluetooth setting, that is still connected to my Windows 11 computer, and it worked just fine. Switched it back to the second Bluetooth and nothing, swapped it back a couple more times, still worked on Win11 but not Win10. When one goes out, they both go out. So its not like only the mouse goes out, but the keyboard as well. Even though they are two different devices in the Bluetooth settings.

Those are my only Bluetooth devices I have here, and no where near my microwave. My phones bluetooth was already off to begin with

Well while writing this, they stopped responding on my Win11 as well. Now will only work from the USB dongle until I restart the computers

    Hi Cindy,

Sorry, forgot to mention those other things you asked me to try. Had done those as well in the past to try and fix it, to no help.

I just set the other bluetooth setting on the mouse/keyboard to my Windows 10 computer and moved the USB dongle to the Windows 11 computer, so I can see if the issue would be the computer, or the mouse/keyboard.

Here are a few more things you can try.

    1. Check the battery.
    2. Turn off other Bluetooth devices such as phones, speakers, and anything else that may cause interferences.
    3. Microwaves and baby monitors can cause a problem.
    4. Many times, reinstalling the USB drivers may fix this problem. I have attached the directions below.
      1. Please right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager. Then hit enter.
This will open the Device Manager.
      1. Scroll down the page and click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers
      2. Right-click on all of the file drivers and uninstall them. Don't worry. Windows will
      reinstall them.
      1. Then restart the computer. Windows will reinstall the drivers and fix any USB
      problems.

    Sincerely,

    Cindy
