Will my Intel Core i7 5500U Processor be supported by Windows 11 in the future?

Hello,

PC Health Check says that my "Intel Core i7 5500U processor is not currently supported by Windows 11". Currently? So there is a chance that it will be supported in the future? I have read on Microsoft Forums that the processor compatibility list is final though. That would be a disgrace. I meet all the other requirements and bypassing the system requirements with an ISO install is not an option as there are no updates guaranteed.

Regards

Michel

    Hi Michel,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Microsoft were testing and adding some more processors, and did add some to the list, they indicate they have completed testing, and no more processors will be added to the official list.

It is possible to install Windows 11 on an unsupported processor using the Windows 11 ISO, I have Windows 11 installed on an unsupported Core i7 7700HQ processor and Windows 11 runs very smoothly, however Microsoft advise you do not do that, they will not be liable for any problems caused by doing that and also you would not receive Windows 11 updates, however, everyone that has installed Windows 11 on an unsupported processor is still receiving updates.

Microsoft provide the required Registry Edit on this link:

I have run Windows 11 on completely unsupported Desktop with Xeon E5-1620 and it has get all monthly Cumulative Updates via Windows Update, but version update from v22H1 to v22H2 I have make manually.

All that time I haven't seen any issues because of unsupported CPU.
