I updated to windows 11 a while back. Then windows kept prompting me to shutdown and update so I did and now The navigation arrows that reveal the contents of folders in file explorer have disappeared completely. The only way to see the contents is to double click the folder.

I just figured how to do get this view back. Go to the Control Panel, and view by large icons instead of by category. You can then click on "File Explorer Options". In the next window, click on the view tab. Then scroll to the bottom to the Navigation pane setting and make sure 'Show all folders'.

You should now see the arrows in the left column.

Thank you! Hugely helpful! I was so annoyed by this problem that for a moment, I thought about switching to a Mac.

If you are referring to the folder encircled in red. They won't have the ">" on their left because they are Quick access folders. I have attached mine there too to show that I do not have that either. That's how the MS Engineers designed it. However, that's a very good feature to suggest to MS. The good thing about it is that you can voice out what feature you think is important to the Feedback Hub. And I agree that this is a good feature to have. How to create that feature request guide is below.
