Fake Update

I have been getting a blue update screen that does not look legit. It populates the entire screen and reads: Updating your computer.....25% complete.... Please don't turn off your computer. During the message screen which lasts about 2 minutes, I can see my cursor moving around the screen as if someone else was controlling it. Occasionally, it will change to a finger icon as if it has landed on a link (but all I see is a blue screen). I searched the web for such a scam, but couldn't find anything. Any help?

This is exactly what has happened to me. They hacked my Amazon account and bought many $200 gift cards before the credit card company alerted me.

How did you find the ScreenConnect program to remove it? I was called by a company that claimed to be supporting my Netgear Router and they scammed me into all kinds of "paid services" they could supply me. They remoted into my computer and showed me all kinds of "traffic" showing I was being targeted. I now have figured out that this must have all been a scam for me to pay a couple thousand dollars and they are stealing my information. I have had 3 different credit cards hacked.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc > once Task Manager opens up, end-task any processes which look fishy and whatever browser you use. There is a ransomware which uses the same strategy to encrypt your files, but I'm not sure if you've downloaded anything malicious.

Thank you, and perfect timing because this just happened to my mother yesterday! Similar but different screen with the text "Working on updates Do not turn off your system"

Unfortunately I had a chrome session logged in on her computer, and they used my paypal account to pay for their zoom accounts - which they were using to do more scamming. They left their zoom session logged in though, so I was able to poke around in there - until they logged back in again remotely and took over the cursor while I was actively using the computer!

I couldn't figure out which remote control application they were using, but I did see ScreenConnect and wondered if that was it. Apparently it installs without registering under installed programs, as I didn't see anything about it in Add/remove programs when sorting by recently.

Did this really fix your computer? Mine has been doing this and they created unauthorized charges against me.
