My kids received laptops yesterday that were brand new but when they turned them on the computers say Owner and is requesting a password. I have no clue why it’s asking for that on brand new laptops.

    Is the password blank and you just need to select OK. Ask the seller about what the password unless there is a note on any Quick Start guide.

    Usually though when you first switch on a new laptop you would be prompted to go through a setup routine where you create an account.

    Hello Marcy, this is Emily.

    With brand new computer's out of box experinece process, it will never show you an existing user and ask you for password. Instead, it should ask you to set up an account.

    The fact that you have an user called "Owner" and it is asking for password tells me that you either got a floor model, or you have whoever you purchased this from help you set up the computer. Or if these are gifted, the gifter has already started the initial setup. You will need to reach out to whoever you got the computer from for the password, once you get it, you can do a factory reset to start over. If there's no way to get this password at all, you only option is to perform a clean install of Windows 11. You don't need to worry about license issue as it reuses the same OEM license.

    To perform a clean installation of Windows 11 using the Windows Media Creation Tool:

    The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

    Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2156295

    Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

    Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

    Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

    Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

    The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.

    =====================================================

    Now these steps will be done on your problematic computer:

    Go to the computer's BIOS boot menu to have it boot from the USB drive.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11, making sure to choose "Custom install" and select the option to delete all existing partitions.

    Once the installation is complete, you'll have a clean installation of Windows 11 on your computer.
