No options to disable tap-to-click or gestures on touchpad - Lenovo laptop

Hi, I recently purchased a Lenovo V15 IIL laptop (Windows 11) and cannot seem to disable the tap-to-click or gestures on the touchpad. I have tried numerous other guides and fixes but nothing will work.

To be clear, I do not want to disable the touchpad. I just want to be able to disable the functions listed above.

For some reason, I am also unable to add a screenshot to this post - it just says "upload failed" no matter what filetype I try.

Essentially, all the guides tell me to go into the touchpad settings, open the drop-down under "taps", and disable these functions from a checklist. This checklist is not there. All that comes up when I open that drop-down is "touchpad sensitivity".

When I click "more touchpad settings", located below the drop-down in the settings menu I just mentioned, the popup window only goes as far as the "hardware" tab. There is no additional tab for the touchpad on the far right, as is shown in online guides.

I tried to look for the touchpad in Device Manager under "mice and other pointing devices" - as with the above settings menu, the touchpad is not listed there at all. In both instances, it only lists "ELAN pointing device" with no settings to adjust.

Please help - this is the first laptop I've ever owned where these settings cannot be easily changed. I truly hate all the accidental clicks and swipes that happen when I'm just trying to use the touchpad normally, so much so that if this issue cannot be solved I will seriously consider returning the laptop.

Hello I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

First make sure the touchpad software is updated so it gives the latest options, then we check touchpad settings including in the Additional Settings box where the latest touchpad software normally adds an extra tab with more Settings.

    1. Update the Touchpad driver from the Lenovo Support Downloads web page https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/ using the full model or Serial number.

Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you also have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

If that doesn't help then enter Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, go to Mice > Touchpad and then Driver tab. Choose Update Driver, then Automatic to see if it gets a better driver that resolves the problem. If not try Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick to try all previously installed drivers.

If that doesn't work then try uninstalling driver, Restart PC using keyboard to Ctrl Alt Del, on blue screen tab to Power Icon in bottom right, press Enter, arrow down to Restart, press Enter to restart to reinstall the driver.

    1. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad to go over the Settings. Then choose Additional Settings which opens the Mouse properties box. The Touchpad software installs a tab onto it - usually the last one - that should have more settings to check, including a checkbox to Disable Touchpad when USB pointing device is attached. This prevents palm drag from causing the cursor to jump
    2. Try the troubleshooting steps here to turn off touchpad tap to click and gestures:

    1. If none of those help I'd ask Lenovo Support or in the Lenovo forums:

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I did it again just in case, but it doesn't seem to have added anything new in Device Manager.

    What it gives me is:

    -Mice and other pointing devices

    • ELAN pointing device

Not sure why it doesn't show any other options...all seems very odd!

This is what I find digging for your model's Lenovo Touchpad software:

    https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/lap...

Hopefully it will work for Windows 11. Did you confirm that Lenovo suppports Windows 11 before installing it? If not then this can be a reason if the touchpad doesn't comport.

If you're not sure you can run PC Health check which is the final word on what hardware can and can't run Windows 11:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how...

Do you have any other issues where it doesn't run as well on Windows 11? How is the performance comparison?

Interesting information about the mouse potentially being a placeholder for the touchpad software! Hopefully if that's the case I can figure out how to get it to show the touchpad info.

I'm basing the driver info off of the Lenovo website, which had an option to detect the model etc. of the laptop and do a scan for any drivers available to download or update. At the end of the scan it told me I already had the latest/optimal drivers.

Thanks for the link to the Lenovo forums - I did end up making an account and posting there, just waiting to see if I get a response now. I wasn't aware there was a way to go back and look at lists of old drivers, so hopefully there's a way for me to track that down.

(Also, I feel like I'm probably coming across overly terse in my attempts to stay as factual and direct as possible - please don't think I don't appreciate your help! At this stage I definitely value any input into the situation I can get)

    Hi, thanks for responding.

Unfortunately, none of these suggestions have worked.

Suggestion 1: When I checked, all my Lenovo drivers were fully up-to-date.

Suggestion 2: In the Device Manager, there is no touchpad listed at all under "mice and other pointing devices", so I cannot update or uninstall the driver. I cannot access a "driver" tab specific to the touchpad as it is not there.

Suggestion 3: There is no relevant tab in this menu. As previously stated, the last tab only says "hardware" and does not allow me to change touchpad settings because the touchpad is not listed.

Suggestion 4: Unfortunately, these were all things I had already tried, without success.

I will try the Lenovo forums to see if anyone else has ideas on how to fix this. I know I've seen some talk about changing something in the registry to disable these functions, but I'm not really confident in doing that if I can avoid it.
