How can I get a refund for Windows 11 Pro?

Hi folks,

I chatted with Microsoft Support (not sure if it was a chat bot or not) previously about needing to return Windows 11 Pro (license + usb drive). BestBuy said that they do not accept returns and said I need to contact Microsoft to get a refund. The reason I need a refund is because Windows 11 Pro is not compatible on my X99/Xeon workstation, even after purchasing and installing a new TPM 2.0 module. So, I use Ubuntu/Linux and needed to dual boot Windows, and since Windows 10 Pro was not available for purchase at BestBuy, I went for Windows 11 Pro. Unfortunately, after many hours of pain googling workarounds, but none that give long-term security support, I gave up. I really thought that there would be some pipeline in place where BestBuy validates licenses through Microsoft, like linking it to a purchase, or something actually professional, etc. (what a nOOb assumption, I realize this now). So, I've been bounced around by BestBuy 3 times (local and corporate) and cannot get anyone on the phone on Microsoft's end. The license was very expensive ($200), it was never activated, and I can't afford to eat the cost!

Please help me resolve this!

Good day henry_denovo, thanks for your question. I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. Apologies on this but technically BestBuy should honor and carry out the refund since this was bought from them but you can also give it a go with the MS Store team and on what will be their advise on this as they are the ones who can check and decide on this as here in the forums we cannot issue a refund or decide on anything as we do not have access to user accounts.

    Via phone: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/28808/...

    • Head over to the link above and locate the number of Microsoft Store Sales and Customer Support for your country

    Via chat: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus

    • Go to the link above
    • Type in billing or refund or talk to an agent
    • Select None of the above/No for every auto response until you reach the Talk to a person option and click on it
    • Select Windows and Billing from the drop down menu and then sign in when prompted
    • You can select the chat and a new window will pop-up and you will need to wait for a live chat agent to assist you. You can also select the option call me back as another preference for communication and someone from the team should call you back if that option has been selected
    • Kindly take note as well that you might need to repeat the process for several instances as it might take a while to get a hold of a person that will handle this

    Regards,

    Paul R.
