what is the standard ram usage of win 11 if I have 16 gb ram?

Hello everyone.

I am using Win 11 and I have 16 gb ram. And when I go to task manager > performance tab, it shows i am using ~7gb ram, but when I go to process tab to show all the applications I am using, I don't think it is using 7 gb ram because the total should be way less than 7gb ram. The most used ram application is Edge, and it uses about 2gb. If I close it, it is still using 5 gb. But when I check the window 11 requirement, they said it only require ~2gb ram to operate. So, what is this mean in my situation? Does 16 gb ram computer use more ram with win 11 or my computer has viruses? Sorry for my bad English and thank you in advance.

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

How much RAM should Windows 11 use:

    https://softwarekeep.com/blog/does-windows-11-c...

While it's good to troubleshoot high RAM usage, there is nothing wrong with Windows using your RAM, that's what it's there for and any not used is wasted. Where it becomes a problem is if it ever maxes out, so it it regularly uses high enough RAM that it maxes out then you'll want to troubleshoot it to find and fix the problem.

    1. If you want to troubleshoot this more try these fixes for high RAM usage in Windows 11:

    1. Go over Windows 11 with this Performance Checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and to find and fix problems:

    1. Run Crucial System Scanner to check the RAM is precisely spec'd and configured: https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner?cm...

Test the RAM overnight to stress it with the best bootable test memtest86, following this guide to test both sticks and slots:

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
