WIFI slows down, returns to normal after "forgetting Network Connection"

Hey Everyone,

I´m having a problem with my internet in the past month, with no luck finding the solution so far...

My internet speed (wifi) in my Lenovo ThinkPad is usually around 300Mbps for Download and Upload. Then sundenly drops to around 15 to 20Mbps and stays like that.

If I go to "My known Networks", make it forget my Wifi connection and then connect again, the speed is back to 300Mbps! It then lasts from a couple of hours to a day, then it slows down again.

Important things to notice:

  • I checked and all drivers are updated
  • This issue only happens in this computer. My personal laptop, my wife´s laptop, Ipad, Iphone all have full speed while this is happening to the Lenovo.
  • I´ve tried restarting the router, but the issue doesn´t seems to be there.
  • I´m sitting 2 meters away from the wifi router.

Thanks!

    Hi GuilhermeFC1911,

if the computer is not yours but belongs to the company you work for, for any type of problem you should contact your company's network administrator.

Being a company computer, I cannot suggest that you make changes that could compromise the stability of the system.

But in my opinion you should set the Wireless Mode option to 802.11n/ac and not 802.11a/b/g , in any case try to contact your network administrator first.

    Hey,

    Thanks for the reply!

I´ve looked at the driver and it was installed last August, but the problem started less than a month ago...

Still, I will take a look if I can find old drivers

    Cheers!

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay Franco!

    There it goes attached.

I´ve tried the power saving, but since this is a work computer, it doesn´t show anything since I probably don´t have the authorization to change it...

I´ve updated to Windows 11, but no luck as well...

Sounds like a driver issue and possibly the most recent one has the issue. You could try an older driver or otherwise trying to workaround it like franco suggests.

Especially if the wifi hardware is Intel who likes pushing out excessively buggy networking drivers :)

Should add that I normally wouldn't play around with the stuff franco says unless its all you got. The driver would be the proper way to go with trying an older one and should that work. You shouldn't ever have to play around with correctly working networking hardware.

    Hi,

    go to Start>Settings>Network and Internet>WiFI>Hardware Properties,post a screenshot.

Go to Device Manager>network adapters, right click on your network adapter in use>Properties, click on Power Management tab, uncheck the checkbox:"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Click on the Advanced tab and disable any power saving options. Disable U-APSD Support, if any. If the MIMO Power Save Mode option is present, try setting to No SMPS.

Specify the exact model of your WiFi adapter.
