Regarding School / Work account privacy questions, etc..

I purchased a new laptop. As I am a university student. Now my question has to do with me also assigning a school/work account on my laptop as well.

I was told that when I do this my university can easily access not only what I do online while logged into my universities systems but also what is also on my laptop. Is this true? If so would it make them harder to track what I do on my computer if I instead were to log into the school system from a secure browser via VPN instead of keeping the school acct tied to my computer which it is? I want to make it difficult for them to always "know what i am doing on my computer" here is a screen shot that I attached so you can see what ai am referring to. Now i did download a student license of Microsoft office since it a free service they provide but again I don't want them to know every time I am accessing Microsoft office either. don't care if ai lose access to Office because ai can always purchase it. I know it says I can disconnect from that account, but I want to know if there is a way to remove it. It says I can't do that, and I don't understand why I can't remove that school acct None the less, my goal is to not have my school track everything I do whether I am logged into their systems or not and I want to know if it's better to just "disconnect from that school account and instead, if possible, to log into their system instead? That's my goal. Please advise. Thank youThank you

    Hi Demetrios,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

When you add a school account to your PC for installation of software like Microsoft 365 and to access the school domain that means they can access your data stored on their domain using that school login details, they do not have access to your laptop or to the data you store on your private laptop or to your browsing history, that is just not true, they cannot monitor or track your day to day activity on your laptop, that is private to you and no one else.

    Hi Demetrios,

Your school cannot monitor your PC or your activity or data on the PC, there is absolutely no need to remove the school account from your PC.

    Hi Demetrios,

Rest assured, they cannot see into your laptop to see if or what you are browsing on the Internet or anything else, they could not possibly have access to that on your laptop.

The school account is separate to your Microsoft Account, the only things they can see is what you save to their domain like when you upload school work or exams.

In you screenshot, you have two accounts to log into the browser, if you log in with your personal account, they have no access to what you are doing on that account

    Hello David:

So when you say the can access you data stores on their domain using the school l Login details, what does that mean.? So, if you tried to be dishonest while taking an exam, by looking up information while taking the test, can't they see where you went to look up that information to use on that test? Or is the only way they could do that is if you had to install some Proctor monitoring software, or browser that they have to make you install?

last questions I have is in regard to how I set up my School profile, did I set it up correctly meaning that it doesn't share my regular Microsoft account? as mentioned above, I don't want them to know what I do or where I go in general.

See it look like in the screen shot below that my school acct is tied to my Microsoft acct? Or am I not, correct? If it is tied into my acct is there a way to keep it separate? Or if I can remove it and just when I have to log into my school's system i just log in via a web browser like I usually do.

I just want the most privacy and security.
