Spacebar and shift keys not working

Every so often, at least once a day, my spacebar will suddenly start turning down my volume, and my shift key will act as a backspace.

If someone else tells me to "turn on/off sticky keys" or "check your accessibility settings" I will put them through a brick wall.

There MUST be a way to actually fix this.

    Hi Jamie,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

    Sounds like a keyboard issue.

    • Press Win+I Keys to open Settings.

    • Go to System>Troubleshoot menu.

    • Look for Keyboard trouble-shooter. Run it and see if it finds issues.

    • When done, restart to see if the problem is resolved.

    If that does not help,

    • Right click Start.

    • Choose Device Manager

    • Expand Keyboard.

    • Right click the keyboard

    • Select Uninstall

    • Restart your computer.

    • If it is a wired keyboard, try connecting it to a different USB port or another computer.

    • If it is a laptop Keyboard, try connecting a spare keyboard to isolate if it is a hardware problem.

You can test your keyboard using keyboard tester website.

    • Also make sure the chipset and BIOS is updated.

Hope that helps, and rely on us for any further inquiries. All the best.
