Mic Suddenly Quiet on GOXLR

Hello,

I'm using a GOXLR and it has been working fine for months now, however, all of a sudden in the middle of a discord call my mic got super quiet and very frequently isn't picking up talking. Looking into the routing section of the app reveals that GOXLR is picking up my mic just fine, same volume as it's always been. But nothing beyond that point works anymore. The GOXLR app hears my mic just fine. It's plenty loud and sounds completely normal there.

Audio playback, headphones, speakers, games, chat, what have you is just fine and is playing normal.

Things I've tried:

  • Reinstalling drivers
  • Rolling back a windows update
  • Restarting PC
  • Unplugging and replugging all cables
  • Trying a different USB cable and USB port
  • Pressing all kinds of buttons in the app
  • Changing from 48V to dynamic (This sort of works but tends to be inconsistent and will fade out over time becoming super muffled
  • Changing gain for 48V, this did work however it lead to super bad mic quality and made it sound like I was talking through a phone (This can also be inconsistent and cut out/fade out)
  • Changing gain in Windows setting and other applications (However everything was already set to max)

Also my settings are as follows:
Condencer (+48V), Gain: 5dB, Gate: 0, Bass: 3, Mid: -2, Treble: -2, Compressor: 100, De-esser: 0

I am using an AT-2020 XLR mic, a GOXLR, and USB to communicate with my PC. I am mainly using this setup to just chat with friends on discord or communicate though games, I don't stream but I do very rarely use it on OBS.

These have been my settings since I got the GOXLR but as I said earlier it just kinda, stopped working for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I did sort of... Using Equalizer APO I could boost my mic gain, and after some extensive tampering I got it to work. It's a very temporary fix as any game/program that doesn't recognize the boost from the software it wont work anymore.

After trying these fixes nothing changed, mic still way to quiet. Also just to clarify, my mic is picked up just fine, but it's very quiet and I have to turn the gain up in the GOXLR software which compromises quality greatly.

I'll try to contact their support when their website isn't down as it has been for the past few days. Anymore help would be wonderful if you can provide it.

Hello Winter. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

Since it's only happening on the GOLXR hardware I would ask their Support if it's a known issue and what they recommend:
    https://www.tc-helicon.com/service.html

I will give you all possible Microphone fixes to try in sequence. Even if you've already tried one I'd do it in this order as one step may affect the next.

    1. Try updating and reinstalling the Microphone driver in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, then Device Manager, then Audio Input and Output devices, then Microphone . Choose Microphone then Driver tab, then Update > Automatically. If no newer try Driver tab > Update > Browse > Let Me Pick to try all previously installed drivers. If that fails try Driver tab > Uninstall, restart PC to reinstall driver.
    2. Update the Sound drivers from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page. While there make sure you also have the latest Chipset, Display, Network, USB and all other drivers, comparing with the version presently installed in Device Manager.

If no newer driver then uninstall the ones presently installed in Device Manager, reached by right clicking the Start Button. Restart PC to reinstall.

Please run the Recording Audio troubleshooter at Start button > Settings>Update & Security>Troubleshoot > Additional Troubleshooters.

    1. Try these fixes which apply next::

    1. Some report that what worked is turning off Fast Startup at Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what Power buttons do > Change Settings Currently Unavailable > uncheck the box for Fast Startup, Save Settings. Restart and then disable Hibernate file to clear it, restart PC again and enable Hibernate again: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/enable-hiberna...
    2. Right click the volume icon in System Tray at right end of task bar, open Sound Settings, then Choose Your Input Devices, see if the microphone is listed, set it as Default device.
    3. Type Microphone in Start Search, open Set up Microphone, scroll down to Microphone and choose Get started to set it up.
    4. Also reset the prompt to ask for which device was plugged in here:
https://windowsreport.com/you-just-plugged-unpl... Keep in mind you also have a one year manufacturer's support, repair and replacement warranty that comes with any hardware purchase, so if problems persist you can call on them to fix or replace it, making sure it gets done soon enough so you can ensure the repairs work in time for the warranty expiration, or extend it. Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
