PinYin Keyboard for Windows 11

I wanted to type pinyin with tone marks Ex: ni3hao3 --> nîhâo. I know there is a way in to do it on Windows 10 using the Japanese language pack and switching the keyboard to pinyin tones. However, that process doesn't seem to work in the new update of windows seeing that option is no longer available. All I could find are unique plug-ins here and there. I wanted to see if there was a solution on the Microsoft side before I start doing things the custom way.

Here's an example of what I'm looking for:

You can do it with the Traditional Chinese Keyboard, but not the simplified one.

    1. Open the Settings app in Windows 11
    2. Click on Time & Language > Language & region > Add a language
    3. Search for "Chinese (Traditional)" and select it
    4. Click on "Options" and select "Add a keyboard"
    5. Select "Microsoft Bopomofo" as the keyboard
    6. Under "Microsoft Bopomofo," select "keyboard options" > Key assignment
    7. Under "Select your preferred keyboard layout," change "Standard" to "HanYu Pinyin"

    Hi Swaysome,

I am Mario and I am a independent advisor, and I would like to help you.

Here's how you can do it:

1- Open the Settings app in Windows 11.

2- Click on "Time & Language".

    3- Click on "Language".

4- Under "Preferred languages", click on "Add a language".

5- Search for "Chinese (Simplified)" and select it.

6- Click on "Options" and select "Add a keyboard".

7- Select "Microsoft Pinyin" as the keyboard.

Now you can switch to the Microsoft Pinyin keyboard and start typing pinyin with tone marks. To add tone marks to a character, simply type the tone number after the vowel. For example, to type "nîhâo", type "ni3hao3" and the keyboard will automatically convert it to "nîhâo".

Hope this can help you solving the issue.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

    Best regards,

    Mário

Thank you Mario for getting back to me so quickly. I followed the steps you provided but unfortunately, it didn't resolve my issue. When I went to type using that format the only thing that happen was it suggest and select the Chinese character associated with that tone and not the pinyin with tones.

    Example:

This video does not solve the problem for this thread. It shows how to use Pinyin input for Chinese character output, but the question is how to output Pinyin with tone marks. Hopefully you can help find an answer. I'm still looking, myself.

    Hello Mario,

I tried that method too and wasn't given a choice to install the Pinyin input method. I have another computer that has Win10 that I was able to do this process on but for some reason, this workflow is not working for Win11
