Is it safe to defrag and optimize an SSD? If not what do I do if I already did it multiple times?

I have done multiple “Defragment and Optimize Drives,” to my SSD thinking that it would boost some performance in my games. However a lot of people say that it is bad to do this to my SSD. What should I do?

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, just an overview, defragmentation for HDD is a process of re-arranging data storing to a smaller region to have larger space for further storage, thus, it will maximize read and write performance of the hard drive, moreover, SSD stores the data altogether in one unit.

This means, doing defragmentation in SSD is okay but not necessary for brand new SSD or if you do not experience any slow down on the PC caused by SSD, because the SSD already has the functionality of defragmentation and the SSD has a limited amount of write cycles which may reduce the lifespan of SSD.

Yes it is okay, to check SSD reliability there are applications that can test it, you can check on Microsoft Store for an app or third-party apps, or if you have built-in utility apps on the PC to check that would be better.

Note: We cannot recommend a specific app as there are third-party apps that may contain malware.

So is it okay that I did all of those defragmentation to my SSD? How do I know if my laptop is slowed down by the SSD?
