    Hi Nicholas,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I’m sorry to hear that your DVD drive is not working properly. It seems that you have tried some common troubleshooting steps already.

If you have already updated the firmware and BIOS and checked the registry settings, then it is possible that the drive itself is malfunctioning or damaged. However, you can try the following steps to see if they help:

Check the device manager to see if the drive is recognized as a DVD drive. If not, right-click on it and select "Update driver."

Try uninstalling the drive in the device manager and then restarting your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver when it starts up again.

Or you can try downloading and installing the firmware update from Dell's website. Please follow the instructions carefully.

Check the BIOS settings to make sure that the SATA controller is set to AHCI mode. Some laptops may have the SATA controller set to IDE mode, which can cause issues with DVD-ROM recognition.

Note that in some cases, laptops may have a built-in CD/DVD drive that only supports one type of media, such as CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs. In this case, there may not be anything you can do to change it.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
