Of all the many programs than come with Win10, do any allow the cloning of the OS to a new SSD? If so, are the instructions easy to understand & follow? If not, can you recommend one?

Thanks!

    Hi , l_turn9.

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

Look, it is possible to use the image recovery image system to copy your windows to another HD.

It's a bit complicated but possible if you keep the image on the main disk and use SSD to save the image.

    1. Type and search for [Control Panel] in the Windows search bar and click Open.
    2. In the System and Security field, select [Backup & Restore (Windows 7)].
    3. Select [Create a system image].

In the On a hard disk field, select a drive where you want to save the system image⑤ and select [Next]⑥.

    1. The system lists the drives to be backed up and the required disk space. Select [Start Backup] to start creating a system.

System image creation is completed, select.

5; On the drive you save the backup, it will generate a WindowsImageBackup folder, which is where the system image is located.

If you want to keep the old system image, you can copy the entire WindowsImageBackup folder to a new location and create a new system image.

After following this procedure, let me know to show the second part of this form using Windows, but there are other third-party applications that are easier to clone.

    Hi , l_turn9.

I see, it's ok we are here to help you, I should inform you using media creation tools to create a windows 10 installation unit if what you want just follow the procedure presented in the media creation tools itself.

But if you want to clone your windows to the SSD you have to keep the SSD partition empty and request the creation of the image with the procedure I informed and have a usb flash driver with a recovery unit, be careful because doing the procedure wrong can causes your Windows to crash.

Thanks Ivan, looks like something I can do. But before I tried your suggestion, I went to Device Manager, created a Simple Partition on my new SSD, and now, I plan to run mediationtool22H2.exe, when I get a minute. I hope this will work? I have a Win10 DVD with code that I can use once the MediaTool finishes. I am pretty sure this will execute when I put it in the laptop I'm working on, and turn it on. I guess we'll see. ;-)

Please don't think I felt you took too long, or that I did not expect your solution to work, I am sure it is probably superior to the procedure I put together. I was sitting here with nothing to do and came across this.

Thanks again for your help! I only do this type of work every few years and must re-learn the best way to do things all over again every time.

I'd like to hear any warnings or cautions I should be aware of if you have time?

Thanks Ivan, I copied the Mediatool to my new drive and launched that copy of media tool with my new drive attached as a ext drive. When it got to the Install part, I got nervous that it might be installing a new OS into my C:\ drive and not the external drive so I canceled the Install and came back to you ;-) so I will yield to the experts and try the procedure you recommended. So next, I will format the ext drive and start with your steps,

Thanks again for helping, your group must be so busy helping us!
