Hi guys , i have an HP Elitebook 850 G4 that lost all usb ports after a reboot. Everything was good before the reboot.

if i put a bootable win10 usb key, it starts the setup , then to install it complain about a missing driver.

These are the solutions I have tried:

  1. Updating the driver
  2. Uninstall/reinstall
  3. System restore point
  4. Manually updating the driver by browsing for files
  5. Scanning for hardware changes
  6. Updating windows (already checked for updates and all good)
  7. Clean Windows installation
  8. BIOS update, default value
  9. HP support assistant update (all up to date). Through HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, no fail ,usb port ok (according to this, no hardware failure)
  10. Updates from Intel driver & support assistant (all up to date)

I really don't know what else to try

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Expert, and I'll do my best to help you.

It seems that you have tried a lot of different solutions to resolve the issue with the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller not starting (error code 10). I would suggest trying a few more steps to see if they resolve the issue:

Disconnect all external devices and perform a restart to see if the issue is caused by a conflicting device.

Check for any pending Windows updates. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility issues with hardware.

Run the Windows troubleshooter for hardware and devices to see if it can identify the problem and offer a solution.

Disable fast startup in Windows to see if it's causing any compatibility issues.

Try disabling the power management option for the USB controllers in Device Manager.

Try to use a different USB cable and see if that resolves the issue.

Try using a different USB port on the computer to see if it's an issue with the port itself.

If you have access to another computer, try connecting the USB device to that computer to see if it works there.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to consider a hardware repair or replacement of the USB controller. You can also contact HP support for further assistance.

tried all your solutions, problem not resolve.

be aware that the usb works in bios, If i insert a bootable usb drive, it will boot. But when i try to reinstall Windows it starts the setup then ,when i press to install it complains about the USB xHCI driver.
