Hitman 3 (Steam) freezing for a few seconds every 20-30 seconds.

I'm having trouble running Hitman 3. It will load up correctly, but once I'm playing, it will start freezing for a few seconds every 20-30 seconds. This started happening out of the blue, a week or 2 after their most recent update. I didn't change anything in my PC before it started occurring. I've already tried contacting their support, but they eventually pointed me here.

What Hitman support made me do first (without result):

  • Verify game files through Steam
  • Update drivers
  • Reinstall Steam and run it as administrator
  • Manually clearing the cache of the game
  • Full reinstall of the game

After this I sent them DxDiag and MSinfo files. They then told me the following:

"After an in-depth analysis of your files, we have identified your issue might have been caused by corrupted drivers and a memory leak occurring in your computer; this issue is logged as "RADAR_PRE_LEAK"."

They made me do the following, in this exact order (again, without improvement):

  • Clean boot
  • Uninstall GPU drivers
  • Reboot
  • Let Windows reinstall basic video driver
  • Clean boot
  • Run System File Checker
  • Re-run System File Checker 3 more times
  • Install GPU drivers
  • Clean boot
  • Launch the game

Unfortunately that didn't help either. They then told me this:

"In this case, the cause might be deeper than 3rd party software and it would require additional operating-system-level investigation. Since we are not certified Microsoft technicians, we won't be able to adequately assist you with that, so I would like to recommend you to reach out to Microsoft support directly as they'll be able to analyse your system in-depth and advise you further."

So that's why I'm here now.

My system info:

Windows 11 Home (upgrade last weekend, I had the same problem before upgrading as well)

Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621

CPU: Intel Core i5-9600K @ 3.70GHz

RAM: 32 GB

GPU: Nvidia RTX-2080ti

If any more info is required, please let me know.

Hitman 3 is the only game I have real problems with. The only other game with an occasional freeze (but that's only every 30-ish minutes) is Train Sim World 3. Every other game works flawlessly, including new games like Hogwarts Legacy.

EDIT: I also tried installing the game on another drive, in case it was caused by a bad drive, but I have the same problem on both my sata SSDs and my HDD.

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

    1. Since the problem is mainly in the one game, it points back to the game more than Windows. Let's try all the ways others have fixed freezing in Hitman 3 on Steam:

    1. Try all other fixes for Games Freezing in Windows 11:

    1. If none of those work then what I'd try if you haven't yet is posting this up in Steam forums since it's happening on their platform:

Let me know if you have any questions or I can help performing any of the above steps. Based on the results you post back I will have other steps to try if necessary.

I did a full clean install of Windows (first formatted my other 2 drives, to make sure there was absolutely nothing left), which seems to have solved the problem for me.

Unfortunately, the other suggestions you've already tried. Sorry, I'm out of ideas on how to continue helping you in this case, but I believe someone else will have a solution for you.

Hi Anderson. Thanks for the response. At the time the problem started, I was still using Windows 10, but I've since upgraded to Windows 11. Will that be an issue when using a restore point?

EDIT: Well, I guess that doesn't really matter, since there are no restore point, even though it is turned on (I checked using your steps above)... What can I do now?

Hi, my name is Anderson Souza, I hope I can help you with your issue.

Many procedures have actually been tried. In that case, since you more or less know when the problem started, maybe a system restore can help.

This option takes your PC back to an earlier point in time, called a system restore point. Restore points are generated when you install a new app or driver, and when you create a restore point manually. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.

1 - In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel, and then choose it from the list of results

2 - In the Control Panel search box, type recovery.

3 - Select Recovery > Open System Restore.

4 - In the Restore system files and setting box, select Next.

5 - Select the restore point that you want to use in the list of results, and then select Scan for affected programs.

    Notes:

    • If you don’t see the restore point that you want to use, select the Show more restore points check box to see more restore points.
    • If you’re not seeing any restore points, it might be because system protection isn’t turned on. Here’s how to check:
    • In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel, andthen choose it from the list of results.
    • In the Control Panel search box, type recovery.
    • Select Recovery > Configure System Restore > Configure and see if the Turn on system protection option is selected.
    • If the Turn on system protection option is not selected, system protection isn’t turned on and there aren't any restore points. In this scenario, you won't be able to recovery your PC using a system restore point.
    • If the Turn on system protection option is selected, continue with step 6.

6 - You'll see a list of items that will be deleted if you remove this restore point. If you're OK with the deletions, select Close> Next > Finish.
