Apps in Startup folder don't

Running Windows 10 Pro with all the latest updates.

Have several app shortcuts in my startup folder and they always started when my PC booted up. But for the last few days they haven't started when my PC boots. Windows updated a few days ago (3-7-23) so that could be the problem. I've used Settings-Apps-Startup to turn on the apps but the next time I boot up they fail to start and in Settings-Apps-Startup they are all turned off again. Should I uninstall the latest Windows update?

Hi Dave. Here's a screenshot of my Startup folder.

(The full path for this folder is: C:/Users/%UserName%/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/StartMenu/Programs/Startup)

The three spreadsheets and the BlueStacks 5 app always opened when my PC booted. On or about about 3-8-23 they stopped opening at bootup and I had to manually start them.

Additionally, I have four apps that were set to open at bootup in their individual settings. They also stopped opening.

I did follow your instructions which added another shortcut to the Startup folder. It also failed to open on bootup.

I went to Settings-Apps-Startup and set the apps I wanted to "On" and rebooted but the apps failed to open and in Settings-Apps-Startup the were all set to "Off".

I'm still thinking I need to uninstall the 3-7-23 Windows Update and/or do some kind of Windows repair.

    Hi Lou 43,

Just checking in with you, were you able to uninstall the latest update to test if that resolves the startup issue?

    Hi Lou 43,

Sorry, i was offline, I think you are correct, thee must be something in that update breaking that functionality, though no-one else seems to have reported this, the best option would be to uninstall that update.

    Hi Lou 43,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Create a Desktop icon for an application you want to start with Windows.

Open File Explorer, then paste this into the Address Bar in File Explorer and press Enter to open the Windows Startup folder.

    shell:startup

Drag the new Desktop icon you created into that folder.

Then restart your PC to see if that app starts with Windows.
